Mander Portman Woodward is an independent education provider and one of the best known and most well-respected independent colleges in the UK. In January we opened Queen’s Gate House, an outstanding full boarding facility that completes our urban campus at MPW London. Based in London’s arts and science quarter, Queen’s Gate House is also an historic event and conference venue, and we have a multitude of events lined up for 2023.

We are looking for a reliable and responsible School Security Guard to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors within the school premises. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to security.

This is primarily an overnight role with shifts on a shared rota basis. The role is part of the wider building support team, so there will also be the opportunity for day shifts or extra hours supporting the front of house team and/or events.

The role will have a rotating, 12 hour shift pattern of 4 night on and 4 nights off.

About The Role

You will:

  • Patrol the school premises to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitor and control access to the school premises, ensuring only authorized personnel are allowed entry.
  • Conduct regular checks of the school buildings and facilities to identify any security risks or hazards.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, or security breaches.
  • Report any incidents or concerns to the appropriate authorities and maintain accurate records of all incidents.
  • Provide a visible security presence to deter potential threats or criminal activity.
  • Assist with the implementation of security policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other school staff to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Monitoring CCTV
  • Accepting early morning Catering Deliveries as required


About You

You have:

  • Experience in school security, and a Valid Security Guarding SIA Licence would be desirable
  • A First Aid at Work qualification, and experience in Fire Marshall responsibilities
  • A good understanding of Health and Safety, and the ability to react effectively to unexpected situations
  • Knowledge of cultural, religious and gender issues, so that our students can be appropriately supported
  • A personable and professional communication style
  • Great teamwork skills, as well as initiative to complete tasks on your own

About Mander Portman Woodward - London

Mander Portman Woodward London, commonly referred to as MPW, is one of a group of independent colleges providing GCSE and A-level education for 14- to 20-year-olds. The other mixed, non-denominational colleges are located in Birmingham and Cambridge.

The school was established in 1973 by Robert Woodward, Rodney Portman and Nicholas Mander, which is where MPW gets its name. In 2016, the group was sold by Levine Leichtman Capital Partners Incorporated, a Los Angeles private equity firm, to the education firm Kaplan International.
