International Education Agency of Papua New Guinea (IEA)

Schools Advisor

The IEA is a not-for-profit organization and the largest private education provider in PNG with 18 schools across the country. It offers a dedicated curriculum, delivered in English, which reflects international educational standards.

The Post

The IEA is seeking applications from experienced educators to support teachers in our schools.

The position is part of our Centre for Professional Development (CPD). The CPD provides a range of curriculum and professional advice in IEA schools. Experience as an advisor is not essential.

The focus is on Grades K to 8 but general pedagogical help is also provided at higher grades.

The successful applicant will begin duties as soon as possible in 2025.

The applicant success criteria:

  • a minimum qualification of Bachelor of Education (or equivalent) and seven (7) years' teaching experience in primary/elementary education,
  • full and current teacher registration status in a relevant education system,
  • experience in facilitating teacher development at school or system level,
  • sound knowledge and understanding of current trends in early years, primary, middle and secondary school curriculum,
  • high standard of classroom management and teaching skills,
  • in-depth understanding of the necessity for teacher preparation–planning and assessment for learning and reflective practice.
  • experience in mentoring classroom teachers in a learner centred teaching context,
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills,
  • a personal educational philosophy which is consistent with holistic education and an outcomes based systemic approach.

Expertise in one or more of these areas is highly desirable:

  • English and literacy
  • Mathematics
  • STEM
  • IT & digital learning
  • Wellbeing and special needs

While adaptability to respond to needs across the academic spectrum is desirable, our focus of support is specifically developing the teaching of literacy, numeracy and behaviour/classroom management. The successful applicant will also be involved in our Teacher Induction Program, which up-skills teachers to work in our schools.

The successful applicant will be part of a team of advisors responsible to the IEA Director of Education for the provision of in school support to teachers in our 18 schools across the country, and for the development of curriculum and related resources.

The need to be a team contributor is essential to this role. Co-operation and flexibility and support of colleagues and the IEA as a system are absolute commitments.

The position is based in Port Moresby, and potentially another centre, and requires considerable away from home travel within the country. It is necessary to hold a current driving license.

This is challenging and rewarding work. The salary and conditions package on offer reflect this.

Employment conditions include an attractive salary, school fees for dependent children, free-of-cost housing and utilities, motor vehicle allowance, medical insurance, and a laptop. Visa and removal expenses and annual leave fares are also provided.

To apply, prepare a current CV, letter of application matching the job requirements, and provide three referees in the TES portal.

Stringent reference and background checking will be undertaken including child protection clearances. Appointments depend upon successful work permit application conducted by IEA.

Applications should only be made online at TES.COM.

Start date as soon as possible in 2025.

Interviews will be conducted by a variety of means.

Because of the substantial number of applications expected, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
