Job title:           Science Teacher

Location:        Oak Tree School, Truro, Cornwall

Salary:        Up to £42,200 per annum depending on experience

Hours:            Monday to Friday 8am - 4.30pm 

Contract:         Permanent; Term time only

As part of our continued growth in service, we are recruiting for Science Teacher to join our amazing team.

About the role

To secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and improve standards of learning and achievement for all pupils in consultation with the Headteacher

To raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the science faculty.

In consultation with the Headteacher undertake other identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school’s curriculum

To be active in developing the science faculty curriculum. Ensure the range of subjects and qualifications are regularly reviewed in response to national developments and the needs of the school and students

  • Set appropriate and achievable expectations and targets for pupils in relation to standards of pupil achievements and the quality of teaching.
  • Work with the Headteacher, Head of Faculty and any other staff to ensure that Individual Education Plans are used to set subject specific targets and match work well to pupil’s needs
  • Establish with the involvement of relevant staff-, short-, medium- and long-term plans for the development and resourcing of all subjects taught, which:
  • contribute to whole school aims, policies and practices including those in relation to behaviour, discipline, bullying and racial harassment:
  • are based on a range of comparative information and evidence, including the attainment of pupils;
  • identify realistic and challenging targets for improvement;
  • are understood by all those involved in putting the plans into practice;

Essential

  • QTS status or equivalent
  • Attainment of GCSE (or equivalent), grade C in English, Maths and Science
  • A level, or equivalent in Science
  • Use of a variety of teaching styles and approaches 
  • Organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all pupils
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work jointly with colleagues 
  • An outstanding classroom teacher, or has the capacity to become one
  • Strategic thinker who tailors lessons to students needs and abilities

Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of pupils from 5 – 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 pupils and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.

This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas.
