Job overview
Science Teacher - Required EASTER 2025
Full time/Permanent MPS/UPS
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, inspirational and highly motivated teacher to join our dedicated team of Science teachers. You will be joining a large & friendly department with a mutually supportive ethos, and an ideal mixture of youth and experience. This has led to the department being highly successful and well-resourced, allowing teachers to focus on developing their classroom practice. Our priority is improving teaching and learning, with a focus on developing the independence of pupils in their approach to work.
We have a thriving Sixth form with large numbers at AS and A2 in all of the traditional science disciplines, alongside more vocational courses. Currently there are over 120 students studying an A Level Science subject.
Our school is highly successful and oversubscribed, with EBacc entries well above the national average, and successful results for students, whether they are disadvantaged, SEND or Gifted and Talented. We value the development of the whole child, and encourage students to take part in a wide range of co-curricular activities. Outdoor education is very popular with our students, and we usually have a large proportion of Y10 participating in the Bronze DofE award, with many progressing to the higher awards. We also run a range of trips each year, both abroad and in the UK, culminating in a popular 'activities week' at the end of the year.
Successful applicants will:
- Have a deep passion and enthusiasm for their subject
- Be committed to exceptional standards of teaching and learning
- Be able to motivate, challenge and inspire students to achieve their best
- Establish and develop excellent relationships with students and staff
- Be tenacious in their commitment to maintaining outstanding results in the Science department
- Contribute to our core vision and values
We can offer you:
- A school with outstanding behaviour and safety for all
- Excellent facilities for teaching and learning with fully resourced KS3 and KS4 science curriculum
- A department which effectively uses technologies to support with workload reduction
- Leading edge professional development to support and improve your leadership skills in preparation for further promotion
- An emphasis on core traditional values of good manners, engagement and high academic achievement
- An emphasis on Duke of Edinburgh, Ten Tors and other outdoor education for all
- All staff in the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership have the chance to share best practice across age ranges, share resources and work in one or more school.
Norton Hill serves Midsomer Norton, Radstock and the surrounding rural area where there is an abundance of attractive and affordable housing. The school is on the edge of the Mendips but close to Bath, Bristol, Frome and Wells.

About Norton Hill School
About Norton Hill School:
Norton Hill is a co-educational, non-selective 11-18 school. Our students come from Midsomer Norton and the surrounding villages of North East Somerset. Norton Hill School prides itself on providing a secure, stable and well-ordered environment based on traditional values and genuine care and concern for individuals.
We have just over 1800 students at the school of whom 400 are in the Midsomer Norton Sixth Form. In September 2016 we increased our Year 7 entry to eleven tutor groups, in response to a growing demand for places at Norton Hill.
Students at Norton Hill belong to one of five houses: Blackdown, Cotswold, Exmoor, Mendip and Quantock. The House system ensures that every student is known individually, whilst enjoying the opportunities that a large school can offer.
