Salary: Grade 3 A - E £13,889-£14,083 (£22,739-£23,057)


26 hours per week, 8.30 am to 2.00 pm Monday to Friday (half an hour lunch break unpaid) 

39 weeks term time only flexibility around hours if needed.

We are looking for a hardworking and committed person to join our technician team as a Science Technician. You will be working under the direction of the Senior Science Technician, but will spend time in a separate Science block.


The Role

  • To prepare specialist equipment and resources for science lessons.
  • To provide general and practical support in the school’s science laboratories.
  • To assist all class teachers in providing students with a relevant and effective experience.
  • To ensure the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment for staff and students.
  • Build good working relationships with students and colleagues which are based on mutual respect. 
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within lessons.


Main responsibilities and tasks

  • Provide technical advice and support to the class teacher as required.
  • To assist in practical classes and carry out demonstrations under the direction of the teacher.
  • Following guidelines provided, prepare and set out experiments, scientific and audio visual equipment, chemicals, specimens etc for laboratory use (this includes moving items between laboratories where necessary).
  • To contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and long term projects.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that cover work, set by teaching staff, is placed in rooms and that this is then collected, to be given to staff on their return.  To ensure that subsequent requisitions are altered to take into account cover situations.
  • To be able to safely use and dispose of material including hazardous substances and be able to respond to actual or potential hazards appropriately.
  • To be responsible for the safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials.
  • Keep up to date records of stock.
  • Under appropriate guidance ensure that routine and non-routine checking, cleaning and maintenance, testing or repairing of equipment is carried out.
  • Keep up to date with current procedures and practice through continuing professional development.
  • To assist with corridor and classroom display board upkeep.
  • Fully implement and comply with all relevant policies. 
  • Other duties commensurate with the level of the post as required.

Bohunt Farnborough is a mainstream, non-selective, community state secondary for girls and boys aged 11-16. The school is located in Farnborough, Hampshire and has good transport links via the M3 and A331.
