Job overview

Are you an ambitious and passionate leader looking for a new role within English? We are looking to recruit an inspiring middle leader to join our well qualified and talented team to help us towards our goal of providing exceptional education at the heart of the community. Securing strong literacy standards and English outcomes is imperative for our students and we want to recruit an exceptional colleague to help lead us to our ambitious goals.

Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill delivers “Excellence by all, for all”. We are looking to recruit an inspiring teacher to support the ongoing development of our English department and our whole school literacy provision. Housed in a spectacular new build with state of the art performing arts facilities the Academy is part of Oasis Community Learning, the second largest multi-Academy trust in England, and one of a group of Oasis Academies serving Southampton. We are a dynamic and vibrant Academy with enthusiastic, committed, and high performing staff. This is a tremendously exciting time to join us, as opportunities for professional development and career enhancement are being realised across the city. Our mission is focused around entitling our students, staff, and community to an exceptional education. Lord’s Hill is a wonderful place to work due to the excellent partnership we have with our students, their families and the wider community, and strong history in the performing arts field. We strive to be the exceptional school our community deserves and are excited to welcome applications from future colleagues who share our enthusiasm for education and dedication to transforming the community we live in and serve, through the eyes of creativity and expression.

The Academy has state of the art facilities. In the summer term of 2021, the Academy began our Horizons project: every student in the Academy now has a dedicated iPad for use in the classroom. This is a hugely exciting development, and one which we want our new English teacher to play a key part in developing the use of online and interactive technology to enhance learning. We are investing heavily in our digital literacy provision and are looking for a leader to ensure we are a leading academy within the trust here.

As part of Oasis Community Learning (OCL), the Academy follows the pre-resourced OCL curriculum, offering exceptional pedagogical development for teachers, alongside support of our dedicated National Lead Practitioner for English. Benefits we offer:

  • An exceptional CPD offer including fortnightly personalised Incremental Coaching, weekly Academy-wide and department-based CPD and termly Trust-based CPD.
  • A pre-planned, fully resourced, Trust-wide curriculum with the autonomy to adapt for your students - no planning lessons from scratch!
  • A centralised Culture for Learning policy which allows the teacher to teach and students to learn. You will be fully supported too by a superb Pastoral and SEND team.
  • A streamlined, personalised feedback & assessment policy, created to minimise staff workload and maximise student progression.
  • The opportunity to undertake fully-funded National Professional Qualifications and access to Apprenticeship Levy for further professional and academic qualifications.
  • The opportunity to run a weekly extra-curricular club of your choosing, and to share your hidden talents with students!
  • Access to an iPad for all staff / students enabling the use of Formative and other online self-marking assessment resources.
  • The opportunity to further your career within the Trust and region. There are also a range of National Lead Practitioner roles within the Trust which you may also have the opportunity to apply for.
  • Access to Eye Care vouchers and a national Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Access to Health Shield Cash Plan which can include 24/7 access to a GP, assistance with the cost and access to dental treatment, eye-care, physiotherapy, and chiropody.
  • Support to balance your work/life/caring responsibilities via our Time Off Work Policy, Menopause Policy, Flexible Working and Sabbatical Policy
  • Trust wide recognition of the challenges to mental health, facing both staff and students, and the support of our National Mental Health Team which is staffed by professionally qualified Mental Health Nurses.
  • Confidential Counselling services for you and those that live with you, should times get tough.

Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill opened in 2008 as part of the initial Academy programme. Since we have been open we have seen significant improvements in achievement, progress and attendance. Academic achievement has markedly improved for all students regardless of their needs or starting positions. In fact analysis of our data by prior attainment (low, middle and high) shows that we outperform most schools nationally. We have also seen a huge improvement in student attendance. This is a good indicator, because if students want to be at school they attend regularly.

We have a brand new building which offers our students outstanding learning opportunities. We are very fortunate to have these facilities and we are committed to making the most of them both for our students and the wider community.

The ethos of the Academy cannot simply be summed up by our new building, our improved results and better attendance. The heart and soul of Lord’s Hill can be summed up in our core values which are essential to every member of staff and are the essence of who we are.

Core values:

  • A passion to include everyone
  • A desire to treat everyone equally, respecting differences
  • A commitment to healthy and open relationships
  • A deep sense of hope that things can change and be transformed
  • A sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul

As an Academy we are dreaming, planning and acting to ensure that Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill becomes an outstanding learning community. This is our aim, not for the praise of politicians or specialists, nor to lord it over others. We follow our aim because this community deserves it. We do it because it is the right thing to do.

If you feel that you too can make a difference to our students’ future we’d love to hear from you.
