Job overview

Job/Person Summary

We are seeking to appoint a leader with the passion and drive to support our Head of English with the ongoing transformation of the English department, to model excellence and support the strategic leadership of this significant area of our school. This role offers excellent opportunities for an ambitious candidate to lead within a newly established, dynamic and forward-thinking team and would suit someone who seeks to develop themselves further to become a subject leader in the future. The ideal candidate would have a passion for English, have high expectations and a track-record of getting the very best from students. In return we offer a generous PPA and leadership time allowance alongside a supportive Senior Leadership Team, a strong wellbeing focus and fantastic career development opportunities.

About us:

At Oasis Mayfield we strive for excellence in all that we do; our mission is focused around entitling our students, staff and community to an exceptional education. We seek to ensure staff, students and our wider community uphold our ethos of being kind, proud and determined. In order to achieve this we have three simple priorities.

·        Leading happy and Healthy lives

·        Transforming lives and empowering communities

·        Providing an exceptional educational experience

We place a high value on the personal development and professional learning for our staff and all teaching staff have reduced contact time accordingly. By being part of Oasis Community Learning, which has 52 academies nationally, you will benefit from a strong support network and partnership within the South Coast and South West regions. You will have many opportunities to develop and share best practice to drive continual improvement, including through regional improvement networks and access to a competitive CPD programme nationally.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment and to undergo appropriate checks, including enhanced DBS checks and a willingness to demonstrate commitment to the values and behaviours which flow from the Oasis Community Learning ethos.

Our offer to you:

When you join the Oasis family there are a number of offers you’ll receive that make us stand out as an employer of choice. These include but are not limited to:

  • An exceptional CPD offer including fortnightly personalised Incremental Coaching, weekly Academy-wide and department-based CPD and termly Trust-based CPD.
  • A pre-planned, fully resourced, Trust-wide curriculum with the autonomy to adapt for your students - no planning lessons from scratch!
  • A centralised Culture for Learning policy which allows the teacher to teach and students to learn. You will be fully supported too by a superb Pastoral and SEND team.
  • A streamlined, personalised feedback & assessment policy, created to minimise staff workload and maximise student progression.
  • The opportunity to undertake fully-funded National Professional Qualifications and access to Apprenticeship Levy for further professional and academic qualifications.
  • The opportunity to run a weekly extra-curricular club of your choosing, and to share your hidden talents with students!
  • Access to an iPad for all staff / students enabling the use of Formative and other online self-marking assessment resources.
  • The opportunity to further your career within the Trust and region. There are also a range of National Lead Practitioner roles within the Trust which you may also have the opportunity to apply for.
  • Access to Eye Care vouchers and a national Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Access to Health Shield Cash Plan which can include 24/7 access to a GP, assistance with the cost and access to dental treatment, eye-care, physiotherapy, and chiropody.
  • Support to balance your work/life/caring responsibilities via our Time Off Work Policy, Menopause Policy, Flexible Working and Sabbatical Policy
  • Trust wide recognition of the challenges to mental health, facing both staff and students, and the support of our National Mental Health Team which is staffed by professionally qualified Mental Health Nurses.

About Oasis Academy: Mayfield

Welcome to Oasis Academy Mayfield

Oasis Academy Mayfield is a fantastic place to learn and work.  Our last Ofsted visit was in May 2016, where we were judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas, since then we believe that we have moved yet closer to our aim to become the exceptional school our community deserves. We value strong relationships with our staff, student, parents, carers and community and know that through working closely together it is ultimately our young people who benefit.

To achieve our aim we have four simple priorities.

• Excellent teaching

• Excellent progress

• Excellent student entitlement

• Excellent staff / parent / community entitlement

We place a high value on personal development and professional learning for our staff.   We invest heavily in supporting the growth of our team believing that if our young people are surrounded by caring, committed and talented staff that they will be best placed to achieve remarkable success.  Being part of Oasis a Multi Academy Trust, which has 3 secondary schools in Southampton, and a further 48 nationally, offers many opportunities for collaboration and professional learning; we are a family and work closely together to ensure that we deliver exceptional education at the heart of our local communities.
