We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced EAL teacher committed to supporting the development of English language skills, both within the EAL department and by working with colleagues across the school, in order to enhance students’ access to the academic curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated English curriculum for students
- Teach the subject throughout Malvern College Chengdu (Years 7 – 13), KS3, KS4, KS5.
- Facilitate and encourage a learning experience, which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
- Contribute to raising standards of student attainment
- Share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth
Mainstream Teaching
- Provide students with high quality teaching of EAL/English curriculum throughout the school
- Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to students’ needs in order to inspire, motivate and challenge students
- Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives for students of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions, monitoring learners’ progress and levels of attainment
Curriculum Development and Assessment
- Support the Head of EAL/English to develop and refine the EAL/English curriculum to ensure that the curriculum area provides a range of teaching which complements the school’s strategic objectives, is relevant to the needs of students and examining and awarding bodies
- Support the Head of EAL/English with the assessment of students’ standards
Key Requirements
- Educated to degree level and hold qualified teacher status
- Organised and committed to the job role
- Experience of successful teaching of IELTS and TOEFL
- Experience of working in a teaching position in this subject area for at least two years
- Excellent writing skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
- Operate as an effective team member
- Clear and confident communication skills, able to liaise at all levels and with all members of the school community
- The ability to work in settings of a newly opened school
- The ability to adjust to a new cultural environment
- The ability to work with international staff of a new school and be passionate and ambitious about the success of Malvern College Chengdu
- Be resilient and able to work well under pressure and manage your time effectively
- Effective and influential communication skills, especially with those from other cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- High cultural intellect: sensitivity to cultural differences
- The ability to establishing good working relationships with a wide range of people including students, parents, and colleagues

In Prep School, students are encouraged to use Chinese while also building a strong foundation in English.
