International Community Schools Abu Dhabi is seeking a passionate and experienced Secondary English Teacher to teach the IGCSE curriculum. We are looking for an educator who can foster a stimulating and supportive learning environment that inspires students to excel academically and grow holistically. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons that develop critical thinking, effective communication, and a love for literature.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum and Lesson Delivery
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons aligned with the iGCSE English Language and Literature curriculum.
- Utilize differentiated instruction strategies to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Incorporate 21st-century learning tools and technology to enhance classroom engagement.
- Foster an environment that promotes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in students.
- Prepare students for internal assessments and iGCSE exams, ensuring they meet and exceed academic targets.
Assessment and Student Development
- Develop and administer a variety of formative and summative assessments to measure student progress.
- Provide detailed and constructive feedback to guide students toward improving their performance.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and create detailed progress reports for parents and leadership.
- Offer academic support and guidance to students through individual consultations or group sessions as needed.
Classroom Management and Culture Building
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and mutual understanding.
- Use effective classroom management strategies to ensure optimal learning.
- Build strong relationships with students, fostering a growth mindset and encouraging a love for learning.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, including other subject teachers, teaching assistants, and school leaders, to develop cross-curricular activities and school-wide events.
- Attend parent-teacher meetings and provide timely communication about student performance.
- Participate actively in professional development programs to stay updated on best practices in English education and iGCSE standards.
- Engage in school activities, extracurricular clubs, and events, contributing to the holistic development of students.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, English Literature, Education, or a related field.
- A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, teaching diploma, or equivalent certification) is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 to 4 years of teaching experience at the secondary level, ideally in an international or British curriculum school.
- Proven expertise in teaching IGCSE English Language and Literature with a track record of successful student outcomes.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong ability to plan and deliver effective lessons that inspire students.
- Knowledge of differentiated learning techniques to cater to various student abilities.
- Proficient in integrating technology into classroom practices (e.g., interactive whiteboards, online platforms).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to manage time efficiently, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
