Whilst the concept of private schooling is not entirely new to us, Independent School is unique- in the sense that it is the first of its kind here, to be managed entirely by the Seychellois and to be run almost entirely by Seychellois.
The school is recognised and licensed by the Ministry of Education.
Its initial aims of 1993 still stand strong in 2023: To push for excellence in a bid to empower the youth in its care for the world of work; to “apprendre pour grandir”.It provides quality education by suitably and highly qualified teachers in a school environment that is extremely conducive to learning, where the school ethos is more than positive and where the holistic development of the child is strongly emphasised.
Teaching is based on a Cambridge curriculum for expatriates and has also accepted Seychellois enrolees.
ISL teaches from Kinder to A Levels, has over 1050 students from different nationalities on the school roll.
The International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) is taught in Secondary 4-5 and Advanced Level is taught in AS and A-Levels. All of these examinations are administered and accredited by the University of Cambridge. The school prides itself on academic excellence, with many of its students going on to study at some of the most prestigious universities in the world.
There are three houses at ISL, named for planets- Venus, Neptune and Mars.
ISL is an inclusive community, where children and staff foster love for learning, and continuously contribute to the local and global community.
The school remains confident in its mission and strives to be innovative in its approach to teaching and learning. ISL is confident that its endeavours make a difference to the individual student and the community at large.
The educational model is to offer a genuinely holistic and academic education which enables pupils to enjoy their education, develop their own interests, and discover their academic passions and are committed to academic excellence, high- quality pastoral support, and an exceptional range of opportunities beyond the curriculum, all within a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
