Job overview

Can you inspire hope for the most vulnerable young people?

For those with SEN and SEMH needs, attending school can feel impossible. Overwhelming classrooms, lack of understanding and pressure on resources often leaves them without vital support and many end up as unwilling or unable to attend.

Being out of education, these young people are desperately in need of your experience, expertise and understanding, which is why you should consider working with Fresh Start in Education. Working on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, in placements set up and supported by our dedicated team, you will plan, deliver or support bespoke learning programmes designed around your student’s needs and interests. By linking YouTube to English, baking to Maths, gardening to Science, you'll turn their world into their classroom. Your skills and commitment will help ready our students to reintegrate back into education.

The placements:

  • Working with your student on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis in their home or a suitable venue
  • Planning and delivering 2-5 sessions per week. Each session is between 3-5 hours, during school hours and term-times only.
  • Placements organised and supported by our dedicated teams
  • Bank Staff worker – providing short-term provisions as and when they arise, paid via PAYE

What you need to apply:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience working with vulnerable children or young people with additional needs (SEN, SEMH needs and other barriers to learning)
  • Experience delivering or supporting English and Maths at Primary or Secondary levels, along with other subjects if possible
  • Consistent availability to commit to a minimum of 2 sessions per week (a minimum of 2 working days)
  • A commitment to keeping children and young people safe and a practical and up to date knowledge of safeguarding

The benefits:

  • Competitive hourly rate of £25 to £35 per hour
  • Subsidised travel costs and £15 per day for resources
  • Free wellbeing and counselling service, pension option & store discounts
  • Work for a nationally recognised provider of specialist academic, social and emotional support for vulnerable young children and adults

The dedication and compassion of our staff continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve, helping to shape brighter futures for generations to come. But we can’t do it without you. To find out more about how you can make a difference in the lives of our students call 020 3409 6410. We would love to speak with you.

Due to the nature of the work and our commitment to safeguarding our students, you will be required to undergo thorough background checks including ID, Right to Work and employment checks and will also require an enhanced DBS.

Independent Tutoring and Education programmes for children excluded from school in the UK

At Fresh Start in Education we specialise in the re-engagement of students who have been excluded from school or are out of education. This includes students who are at risk of exclusion or have already been permanently or temporarily excluded, school refusers, young offenders, those with emotional or behavioural difficulties, serious health issues or those who are generally disengaged from education. We work with all ages from early years through to adult.

We provide bespoke, child-centred, high quality education programmes, which ensure that all the students that we work with have outstanding opportunities to re-integrate into regular or specialist education. We provide the encouragement and tools for students to develop and apply the knowledge, skills and understanding that will help them become successful at learning, confident as individuals and to live productive and responsible lives.
