Up to £25,491 p.a. (FTE £28,294 p.a.) - Pay award pending

Runshaw College is one of the most successful colleges in the country, renowned locally and nationally for our outstanding results, friendly and supportive culture and focus on putting the student at the heart of all that we do.

We value our staff and students highly, and invest heavily in their development, support and wellbeing. Situated in Leyland, Lancashire, the College is near the M6, M61 and M65 and within commuting distance of Manchester, Liverpool and the Lake District.

Additional Learning Support (ALS) at Runshaw aims to enable students to maximise their potential. We view it as a positive model offering support for all students with learning difficulties or disabilities, playing a central role in supporting individual students to achieve their best and we have worked hard to ensure there is no stigma attached to using the service.

The team provides a range of support to meet the needs of individual students. This includes assistance with literacy, numeracy and study skills, personal care support, support for disabilities e.g. Dyslexia, Sensory & Physical Impairment, Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Moderate Learning Difficulties, as well as individual support on a one to one basis. All students, regardless of need, are recommended a package of support that is linked to their primary learning aim.

You will work closely with the Head of ALS, the Senior ALS Coordinator, and other key staff to support an identified caseload of students with a specific focus on literacy, numeracy and study skills.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be warm and approachable and be able to support students who have learning differences and/or disabilities in developing their skills in literacy and numeracy to help them achieve their learning aim in Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and/or English. Additionally, you will support students in developing their ability to study and learn effectively.

Closing date for this post is 12 noon, Friday 15th November 2024

Established in 1974, Runshaw College has come a long way from its modest beginnings as a Sixth Form College with just 450 students. Over the past five decades, we’ve transformed into a comprehensive Tertiary College, now serving over 5,000 learners. Our growth is a testament to our commitment to education and student success.

At Runshaw, we’ve earned a national reputation for excellence in teaching and learning. As the only college in the country to have won the European Quality Award for Excellence, we take immense pride in our achievements. Our dedication to student needs drives everything we do.

We proudly offer an extensive selection of over 40 subjects, positioning us as one of the leading providers of A-Level courses in the country. In addition to A-Levels, we provide a diverse range of vocational courses from Entry Level to Level 3. By partnering closely with local employers, we also offer numerous apprenticeships, ensuring our students acquire practical skills and valuable real-world experience.

Our students consistently achieve outstanding outcomes. From prestigious destinations like Oxford and Cambridge Universities to careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, and renowned conservatoires. These achievements are a testament to their hard work and reinforce our belief that a supportive environment for both students and staff encourages individuals to thrive.

Our commitment extends beyond the classroom. We actively engage with employers, co-creating an agile curriculum that addresses skills shortages. Together, we’re shaping a highly skilled, employable workforce for the future.

Located in Leyland, we serve students from across Lancashire. With excellent transport links—including major motorways like the M6, M61, M65, and A59—we’re within easy commuting distance of Manchester, Liverpool, and the Lake District.

This is an exciting period of Runshaw College's story, if you’re passionate about education and want to be part of striving for excellence at all levels, explore our current vacancies for both teaching and support staff. We’d love to hear from you!
