Job Description

KIS is recruiting an experienced SEN Post-16 teacher with expertise in supporting young adults with mild to moderate learning differences within the SEN classroom setting (Springboard Programme). This is a full-time post and is required for August, 2023.

 The SEN Post-16 Teacher must:

  • Hold a Bachelor Degree in Education with a major in Special Educational Needs or a Bachelor Degree in another subject with a PGCE / PGDE in Special Educational Needs
  • Have a minimum of 3 years SEN teaching experience
  • Experience in British Curriculum (Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4) preferred
  • Be ready to utilize an adapted curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Have the ability to use current theory and practice in teaching and learning
  • Have excellent classroom management skills and pedagogical practice
  • Have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and carers
  • Strong English written and verbal skills
  • Have knowledge and experience with computers and learning technology

The SEN Post-16 Teacher’s responsibilities include:

  • Teaching individual and small groups of pupils both in and out of the classroom
  • Developing and adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Behavior management
  • Planning for lessons and preparing resources
  • Marking and assessment of student work
  • Using special equipment and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and technology to stimulate interest in learning
  • Organizing ‘learning outside the classroom’ activities such as community and school outings or sporting events
  • Collaborating with other teachers to prescribe appropriate and relevant activities for pupils
  • Assessing young adults with learning differences and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs
  • Planning, implementing and monitoring Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs)
  • Assisting in pupils' personal care and / or medical needs
  • Work closely with the Head and Deputy Head of the Springboard Programme to ensure that the requirements of the SEN Policy are met
  • Liaising with other professionals, such as counsellors, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists
  • Communicating regularly with parents and guardians on the development and progress of pupils
  • Carrying out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress
  • Participating and / or hosting annual reviews or other related meetings, such as Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) and IEP meetings
  • Attending in-service training for professional development
