Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative team in an expanding independent school which caters for students with special educational needs (SEND).

Abingdon House School is a unique and successful Independent Day School for children with special educational needs including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other associated needs, aged 8-19. The school operates a mainstream styled provision, delivering holistic and integrated programmes of education, therapy and personal development for its students.

We would be particularly interested in hearing from teachers who have a Maths or Science specialism and/or a SPLD Level 5 certification.

This role would suit an enthusiastic and aspirational teacher who is secondary trained. While previous SEND experience or training is desirable, excellent teaching skills, interpersonal qualities and a genuine desire to put the child at the centre of their learning is of equal importance. You will be responsible for the planning and delivering of lessons in a range of subjects across the curriculum and for working as a part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for all of our students.

Classes are based on 10 students and are mixed age (generally across 2 year groups). Students are studying the national curriculum across Key Stages 3-4 (not necessarily in line with their chronological age), as well as engaging in Functional Skills, BTEC qualifications and GCSEs. All teachers teach across the subject areas for the Key Stage 3 curriculum, with subject specialist teachers for the Key Stage 4 curriculum. Therapy is integrated across the curriculum, as well as provided on individual and small group basis.

We would particularly welcome applications from teachers with an English specialism.

The successful applicant will:

Be secondary trained (QTS desirable).

Have a flexible and creative approach to teaching.

Have high expectations and aspirations for our students.

Have a passion for supporting students’ wellbeing and personal development.

Be a true team player who enjoys working collaboratively within a close knit team dedicated to ensuring our learning environment is a positive and welcoming one for all to enjoy and thrive within.

Have experience, qualifications or an active interest in supporting students with additional needs. Ongoing and targeted continued professional development is provided.

Be skilled in using ICT to support learning, both in and out of the classroom, ideally with experience in Google Suite.

Abingdon House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Applicants must be able to provide evidence of having the right to live and work in the UK and be prepared to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with previous employers.

For an application pack or for further information please contact: Jennifer.Lewin@abingdonhouseschool.co.uk.

Rolling application process. Final closing date: Friday 13th December 2024
