Purpose of the job

To lead and manage the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities; and to take on the role of SENCO to support high quality teaching, effective use of resources, and high standards of learning and achievement for all pupils. To be a part of the safeguarding team as a Deputy Safeguarding Lead.

Inclusion Leader- AHT

Responsible for

Leading the work of the Special Educational Needs Team, including the Teaching Assistants.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • To be the SENCO for Grafton Primary School, and support in developing provision for pupils with SEN
  • To be one of the Deputy Safeguarding Leads at the school
  • To work within the inclusion team to support pupils with additional needs.
  • To manage appropriate resources for pupils with Special Educational Needs and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely
  • To develop curriculum resources to ensure that pupils identified on the SEN Register have the required levels of support
  • To promote and encourage an inclusive curriculum.
  • To work with teachers & TAs to provide appropriate support.
  • To help ensure the school is working with the guidelines of the 2014 Code of Practice.
  • To help promote high expectations for pupil progress and attainment across the school.
  • Work within the context of the school’s aims and policies.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The main responsibilities of the post are to:

  • lead in the early identification and assessment of pupils with Special Educational Needs
  • manage the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs, including support and the writing of individual education plans
  • liaise with staff, parents and relevant outside agencies to ensure that individual pupil needs are met effectively
  • ensure that accurate and detailed records are kept, including meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies
  • work with other staff to ensure that individual education plans are used to set appropriate targets
  • support the monitoring procedures and arrange and chair review meetings
  • analyse and interpret relevant national, local and school pupil data, plus research and inspection evidence, practices, expectations, targets and teaching methods
  • use data effectively to identify pupils who are underachieving and where necessary create and implement effective plans of action to support those pupils
  • provide guidance to staff on the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of different pupils
  • manage the budget and resources, establishing staff and resource needs

Additional responsibilities of the post threshold teacher:

  • contribute regularly to the professional development of colleagues through coaching and mentoring, demonstrating effective practice in planning and exemplar lessons, and providing advice and feedback
  • contribute significantly, where appropriate, to implementing workplace policies and practice and to promoting collective responsibility for their implementation
  • raise attainment in line with or exceeding national standards for the groups of learners they are responsible for
  • Safeguarding: Understand the duties and responsibilities in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people. 2. Understand fully the school’s Child Protection policy and ensure all issues relating to pupils’ safeguarding are reported immediately to the designated members of staff.

All teachers have a duty to:

  • participate in and support the Performance Management Policy
  • lead in the development of the School Improvement Plan and its review mechanism
  • undertake specific duties within the SEN Team as agreed with Inclusion Manager
  • support the school’s safeguarding policy and procedures
  • undertake such other duties as reasonably required by the Headteacher
