Founded in 1989 as the first school in Oman to pioneer the IGCSE/A’ level curriculum and conveniently, centrally located in Qurum, Muscat International School is an International, co-educational day school, licensed by the Omani Ministry of Education to deliver the Cambridge International curriculum alongside Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies from the Omani curriculum, to students of all nationalities from EYFS to Grade 12.
Children in Kindergarten follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Programme, leading to the Cambridge International Programme for Grades 1 to 6. This progamme culminates in Checkpoint testing at the end of Grade 8.
Grades 9 and 10, students experience the IGCSE curricula in accordance with Cambridge and Pearson Examination Boards. Grades 11 and 12 can study Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced Level subjects. Alternatively, students may choose to follow Oman's General Education Diploma course in which all subjects are taught in English except for Arabic, Social Studies and Islamic Studies which are taught in Arabic.
Non-Muslims may be exempted from Islamic Studies and non-Arabic speakers receive Social Studies in English and non-native speakers of Arabic take beginners’ Arabic up to and including Grade 8.
Special provision for non-native speakers of English needing intensive support is available so that they can be fast-tracked into the mainstream curriculum.
Our inclusive philosophy ensures quality education for students with a range of SEND.
Teaching staff, who are all appropriately approved and qualified, represent multiple nationalities and are seasoned professionals. All teachers commit to the school’s extra-curricular activities programme which is incorporated into the daily timetable.
MIS is equipped with a gymnasium, swimming pool and training pool, a theatre, , craft, drama, music and home economics rooms, computing suites, four very well-equipped specialist science laboratories and generous classroom space. .
MIS Students graduate to attend universities worldwide. We make every effort to maintains links with our former students.
The school year starts in late August and ends around the third week in June. All National and Religious Holidays are observed as well as longer breaks in October, February and March/April. There are three terms modelled on the British system with winter and spring breaks.
Muscat International School is a full member of British Schools in the Middle East (BSME), an Associate Member of the Council of International Schools and is a recognised CIE and Edexcel examination centre.
