We are looking for an experienced SENDCo to join our fantastic team at Holme Court School in Cherry Hinton.

About us

Holme Court School is a small independent specialist school teaching children with specific learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia. dyspraxia, ASD.

We are rated “outstanding “ by Ofsted and are a Crested accredited school. Our students are aged between 7 and 16. Our capacity is 55.

Our students are taught in smaller class sizes and all students work towards a variety of qualifications dependent on their needs and ability.

Our philosophy is that all children can learn; all children are enquiring; and all children deserve the opportunity to flourish in our small classes and nurturing atmosphere.

Underlying all we do is a commitment to raising the self-esteem of our pupils which we see as a vital aid to their effective progress. Our nurturing family atmosphere ensures that pupils feel at ease and able to express themselves with confidence.

We provide a dynamic multi-sensory alternative to the inevitable constraints of a traditional curriculum, enabling pupils to grow into confident, skilled, happy individuals embarking on their adult life.

As SENCO, you'll be an experienced teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs. Working closely with the head teacher, SENDCo and other senior colleagues.

Responsibilities

As a SENCO, you'll need:

  • develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEN strategy and policy
  • carry out assessments of pupils with SEN to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parents
  • work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
  • provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents
  • make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists
  • provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEN
  • support teachers to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for pupils with SEN
  • support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom
  • maintain systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
  • manage SEN teachers, teaching assistants and support staff to improve pupil progress and attainment
  • keep up to date with national and local policies related to SEN and cascade information to colleagues.
  • Manage the annual review process – collating information, preparing reports and reporting to LAs.

The role can be highly rewarding, as you'll have the opportunity to directly contribute to pupils receiving the support they need, to achieve their potential.

Candidates have either a level a level 5 qualification in teaching SpLD or the NASENCo award and be prepared to complete the other.

Equal Opportunities

Holme Court School is an equal opportunities employer and therefore operates no restrictive policies in relation to age, sex or creed. It is the wish of the Proprietor to appoint the most suitable candidate from all the candidates offering themselves for appointment.

All successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced Criminal Record Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service along with other relevant employment checks, including overseas criminal background checks, where applicable.
