Job overview
Thank you for your interest in the post of SENDCo at Abbeyfield School
We are excited to appoint a strong SEND leader to join our school and Senior Leadership Team. This could be YOU.
The right person is:
AMBITIOUS for the children and themselves. You may aspire to Headship or similar. We love " growing excellent leaders" at Abbeyfield.
You are confident and tenacious in your ability to support our young people achieve the best academic outcomes.
You are "Rooted" in wanting to serve children and families to help them get a good foot on the "ladder of life" and be empowered through having choices after school ( choice comes from a good education and outcomes) - the same as our aspiration for all our children here at Abbeyfield.
Someone who is KIND and RESPECTFUL and not in any way judgmental and who believes there is always a way and a solution.
This person must be able to keep all SEND plates spinning and not let one stop or drop - in other words you must be highly organised and efficient with good capacity.
You cut to the chase and don`t make things complicated - you can show great empathy and sympathy when the need arises but also be decisive.
You have a sense of FUN - we think its important to wake up each morning and enjoy what we do as well as having fun together
It is an exciting time to be joining Abbeyfield School as our SENDCo. We are commiting significant resourcing and approaches to be a market leader in our pastoral provision. This has involved increasing our already established structures to ensure that pastoral care and the highest of expectations can be an even bigger strength in years to come.
We, like all schools in the Creative Education Trust, pursue a rigorous and continuous programme of educational improvement. This is alongside an aim to provide students with a rich programme of extra-curricular activities. Abbeyfield offers a varied diet of curriculum and enrichment opportunities, and students benefit from Trust organised events such as the key concept launch days, debate and essay writing competitions.
We also have our annual days of Shakespeare performance which are a visible example of the impact we can have on students’ creativity. We are often the host school for these events to allow students from all trust schools to work in a professional theatre space. We are always keen to expand further on the opportunities we provide for students to develop their creativity, resilience and independence.
Interested? Then do not delay - either get an application in now or pick the phone up and text me on 07842 434021 to arrange a chat or visit.
You will not be disappointed by our school and amazing young people nor the excellent team around you.
Kind Regards,
Fiona Aris, Principal

About Abbeyfield School
Abbeyfield School, part of the Creative Education Trust, is an 11-18 school, predominately serving the South East of Northampton. Through teamwork and a shared desire to support and challenge every student in order for them to achieve their personal best we are building on the 2016 Ofsted ‘good’ judgement and the very pleasing recent outcomes. We have high expectations and aspirations of ourselves and of our students. Our Quality First Teaching Charter ensures a focus on high quality teaching and learning. Alongside academic achievement we place a very high value on students’ social and personal development, equipping them with the life and employability skills needed for successful adulthood.
The school has a wealth of facilities that underpin the wide curriculum including; state of the art theatre, science lecture theatre, dance studio, drama studio, super learning centre designed for collaborative teaching, fitness suite, sports field, netball courts, basketball courts, gym and a full size sports hall. In the last few years we have been at the forefront of curriculum innovation and now offer our students an extensive and relevant curriculum choice.
Our mission is to develop the full academic, personal and social potential of each individual student. The School has a growing reputation for success, with our school slogan "Ambitious to Achieve" proposed by one of our own Year 12 students and our 6 school values - Respect, Resilience, Honesty, Responsibility, Creativity and Independence formed from a staff and student vote . We have high expectations of our students and are an inclusive community and welcome all students from all backgrounds.
This Ambition and community spirit throughout the school led to our Northamptonshire Secondary School of the Year Award 2019 (Northamptonshire Education Awards).
