Background Information
Thornleigh Salesian College
Thornleigh Salesian College is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive Catholic school. The school is under the trusteeship of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2019 recognised that the school remains good and that this is a school "where leaders have created a caring ethos where pupils enjoy learning and achieve well in their examinations".
The school has been awarded the Green School Award, International Schools Award, IAG Gold Award and the Dyslexia Award.
The school is situated in Bolton and is convenient for Manchester and the motorway network. It occupies a picturesque site over several acres and its buildings provide good accommodation for National Curriculum requirements.
The total number on roll in September 2023 is 1550.
The school aims to provide an environment which is secure, stable and orderly, based on Gospel values of love, peace, justice and personal responsibility. The school is underpinned by the values of Respect Understanding Affection and Humour (RUAH). Students take part in regular liturgical celebrations and are encouraged to put their faith into action through their daily interactions with each other, staff and wider members of the community and regular charity work. As a Roman Catholic school the Governors look to each member of staff to contribute to the religious ethos of the school either directly or indirectly. All staff participate in the pastoral care of students and all are invited to contribute as fully as possible to the extensive extra- curricular and enrichment activities on offer, which are considered to be an outstanding feature of the school.
