United Learning

Thank you for your interest in working at The John Roan School. We are a large mixed secondary school which joined the United Learning group of schools in September 2019 and, supported by the expertise and guidance that has brought us, are rapidly improving outcomes for students. Ofsted graded us as a ‘Good’ school in October 2023 and as we continue our school improvement programme, we are looking for people who share our values and passionately believe that all children can achieve, no matter what their starting point, background or needs.

The Role:

As the Sixth Form Student Support Worker for The John Roan School, the post-holder will be an integral part of the Sixth Form Team. The Student Support Worker will work alongside senior staff and the wider inclusion team in school to promote the maintenance of a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment, through the patrolling of the building, supervision of the independent study rooms, responding to on-call requests and liaison with senior staff, paying particular attention to student safety.

In particular, the post holder will:

  • Maintain positive, supportive relationships with individuals and groups of students
  • Maintain the highest standards for our students
  • Be firm, caring, non-judgemental and understanding
  • Ensure that there is a positive working environment throughout the building that enables all students to study effectively
  • Demonstrate a flexible and creative approach in the delivery of their work
  • Work independently with little supervision

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. References will automatically be requested for all shortlisted applicants prior to interview. The successful applicant will be required to be DBS and safeguarding checks prior to taking up post.
