Sous Chef

The Gower School, based in Islington London are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Sous Chef to complement the kitchen team in our expanding primary school.

This is a permanent, full time position. 

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7.00am-3.30pm.

As the Sous Chef you will be responsible for providing daily food service and supervising a small team consisting of a commis chef and 2 general assistants whilst reporting to the catering manager. The school is very much food focused, and offers a diverse vegetarian menu feeding approximately 200 people daily. 

With this in mind, it is essential that the Sous Chef shows passion and a flair for food and cooking, as well as very high standards of service. Experience in contract/education catering is essential, as is holding all appropriate qualifications and knowledge in food safety, health & safety and allergen/dietary management. This is a unique opportunity, working directly for a distinguished school that takes pride in its happy and positive atmosphere.

Key responsibilities:

• Daily cooking and service of the weekly vegetarian lunch menu 
• Compliance and management of all food safety, allergen and health & safety policies
• Managing a small team of 3
• Assisting in menu creation and theme day offerings
• Occasionally working at the nursery kitchen site, which is 2 miles away
