Join Our Outstanding Team at Sherborne Qatar

Sherborne Qatar, a prestigious British school in Doha, is seeking a passionate and experienced Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) to join our dynamic team. As a member of Qatar’s Supreme Education Council’s Outstanding Schools Programme, we take pride in our commitment to academic excellence and character development. Our affiliation with the historic Sherborne School in the UK, founded in 1550, ensures a legacy of high-quality education and holistic student growth.

About Us

At Sherborne Qatar, we focus on providing academic success, small class sizes, outstanding pastoral care, and a rich extracurricular programme to develop well-rounded, high-achieving pupils. We are committed to fostering creativity, communication, curiosity, independence, risk-taking, and resilience in our students.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SENDCo to join our team on a full-time basis. There are two roles available: one for the whole school (EYFS to KS5) and the other as a phase-specific position. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support inclusive education, ensuring that all pupils with special educational needs, bilingual language needs (BML), and those identified as academically gifted and talented (AGT) receive the necessary support to excel.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Support/teach pupils individually, in small groups, or within a class as part of intervention programmes for SEND, BML, and AGT.
  • Plan and deliver lessons in line with school policies.
  • Maintain a purposeful and calm learning environment while upholding behaviour and uniform policies.
  • Set aspirational targets based on prior data and regularly review pupil progress.
  • Provide training and CPD for colleagues on SEND, BML, and AGT provisions.

Administrative Duties

  • Develop and manage Individual Support Plans (ISPs) for pupils on the SEND register.
  • Coordinate with school leaders to ensure students receive appropriate support within their regular timetables and assessments.
  • Oversee and manage the work of Learning Support Assistants, including their training and deployment.
  • Conduct assessments and maintain rigorous records of pupils' needs, progress, and interventions.
  • Handle applications for exam access arrangements in accordance with JCQ regulations.
  • Liaise with parents, external agencies, and professionals such as speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists.
  • Manage the Learning Support budget efficiently.
  • Ensure smooth transitions for pupils between key stages and liaise with admissions for prospective students requiring support.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A DfE-recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, B.Ed, PGDE, or equivalent).
  • NASENCo, iSENCo, NPQSEND, or an equivalent leadership qualification in SEND.
  • A minimum of four years of teaching experience.
  • Experience leading and managing staff, as well as implementing whole-school change.
  • Experience working with second-language learners.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • A proven track record of outstanding teaching and learning in British curriculum schools.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with an intercultural awareness.
  • A willingness to actively contribute to the school’s vision, including extra-curricular activities.

Desirable:

  • CPT3A qualification in psychometric assessment and access arrangements.
  • Experience leading and managing learning support across a mainstream school.
  • International teaching experience.
  • Child protection and first aid training.

Please note: Due to Qatar’s work visa regulations, applicants must be under the age of 50.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Sherborne Qatar is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All staff must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance, an online search will be conducted as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

Sherborne Qatar Schools form a truly international community, welcoming pupils from over 60 nationalities across our campuses. As leading British independent schools in the Middle East, we are committed to delivering educational excellence through a holistic approach that values outstanding pastoral care alongside strong academic achievement.

Our strength lies in our exceptional teachers, high-quality pastoral support, extensive enrichment opportunities, and a warm, inclusive, family-orientated culture. We pride ourselves on knowing our pupils as individuals and supporting them to grow both academically and personally within a nurturing environment.

As part of the wider Sherborne family, our schools benefit from a close relationship with our historic and prestigious partner school in England. Together, we share a commitment to providing the very best of British independent education while embracing the diversity and ambition of our international setting in Qatar.

Qatar is a dynamic and forward-thinking country, and we seek to nurture these same qualities in our pupils. We encourage learners to take responsibility for their own progress, to think critically, and to develop curiosity, resilience and a lifelong passion for learning. Our philosophy of “Education for Life” focuses on developing reflective, adaptable and confident young people who are prepared for the future.

Across Sherborne Qatar Schools, we aim to cultivate well-educated, well-rounded individuals who hold high aspirations and achieve their full potential within a happy and supportive school environment. At the heart of everything we do are our core values of Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Perseverance, Responsibility and Teamwork — values that guide our actions, shape our community and reflect our shared ethos with Sherborne Dorset.

We encourage pupils to become positive role models, embrace leadership opportunities and explore a wide range of interests through our rich extracurricular programmes. While standards and expectations for learning and behaviour remain high, we believe pupils should be challenged in a supportive environment that promotes wellbeing rather than pressure.

Strong partnerships between home and school are central to our success. By working closely with families, built on mutual trust and respect, we create the best conditions for children to flourish, achieve their potential and feel happy and secure in school.

Above all, Sherborne Qatar Schools are caring, inclusive and supportive communities where every child is valued and inspired to succeed.
