Serving the bustling city of Sheffield, Outwood Academy City was constructed in 2011 with state-of-the-art facilities and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust three years later. The school has undergone a huge transformation for its 1200 students, with an innovative curriculum and a personalised approach to learning enabling them to realise their vocational, practical, creative and academic abilities. 

This was recognised by Ofsted in February 2019, when the academy was judged ‘Good with Outstanding Leadership’. Inspectors noted that, “Leaders and teachers demonstrate high expectations for all pupils. They are determined that pupils achieve well in their subjects”. 

We are looking for a third outstanding individual who is enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational to join our Inclusion team as a Specialist Teaching Assistant, with a specialism in Maths and an interest to take the lead in Emotional Literacy (ELSA). As a Specialist Teaching Assistant you will be required to work closely with members of our Inclusion team and will have the energy and creativity to develop and inspire students learning, life skills and personalised outcomes. 

A key focus will be to support student provision and increase students' ability to access all areas of the curriculum and school life. As part of the role you will possess the skills to embed and develop Maths, working proactively with other members of the Inclusion team to improve attainment, by adopting a personalised approach towards planning and delivery of a bespoke curriculum. 

The successful candidates will work to support students in all necessary provisions. A key focus will be to increase students' ability to access all areas of the curriculum. Examples of the work the successful candidates will be expected to deliver are to: 

  • Take responsibility for a caseload of students inside and outside of the classroom during structured or unstructured time. 
  • Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support students’ educational progress and attainment and prepare them for adulthood. 
  • Deliver intervention programs to individuals and small groups, preparing relevant and appropriate learning experiences in conjunction with the department staff. 
  • Track and monitor student life skill targets and/or EHCP outcomes, discussing progress with parents and agreeing new targets/EHCP outcomes at Interim Reviews.
