We are seeking applicants for the position to start in January 2025.

SJI International Elementary School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Speech and Drama Teacher to inspire and nurture young minds through creative expression. We require a Speech and Drama Teacher who has proven experience of developing and implementing an effective Speech and Drama programme. The successful candidate should have proven experience of teaching students between 4 and 12 years of age. His/her background should include the development of a stand alone Speech and Drama Programme within the Elementary curriculum, integration of Speech and Drama into other areas of the curriculum including Homeroom and Music, and ability to put on a yearly show or performance through the CCA Programme.

Job Purpose

● Inspire and nurture students and teachers through the development of a creative and performing arts programme.

● Support the development of students’ speech and presentation skills across the curriculum and at special events

● Develop a progression of skills and strategies that students and teachers can use to develop their understanding. Introduce a range of strategies that students can utilise in order to express themselves and their ideas in creative, engaging and effective ways within the curriculum

● Provide opportunities for students within the curriculum, and beyond, for drama performances

● Assist with the organisation and management of all performances including staging, management of performers, tech support and communication

● Source opportunities within the wider community through which our students can enjoy a range of cultural and aesthetic performances

● Lead and develop the school’s media programme, including managing the media suite and the potential for an elementary school television station.

● Use a range of performances to celebrate our Lasallian Values and School Vision, Mission, Values.

Key Responsibilities

● Create and deliver a progressive Speech and Drama Curriculum; skills, knowledge and

understanding.

● Deliver lessons in Speech and Drama that allow students to develop their skills in communicating and expressing their thinking and ideas.

● Support the homeroom teachers by integrating elements of Speech and Drama to enhance the existing curriculum and broaden the means by which expose students to different cultures and the variety of ways in which Speech and Drama are used to convey their important values and themes.

● Collaborate with colleagues across the schools by assisting with performances in other

subjects such as Music, English Language Arts, IPC and Chinese Language Arts.

Specific Tasks and Duties

● Build self confidence in communication and presentation skills.

● Work with Lower Elementary classes on a regular basis to build up skills and confidence toexpress their ideas through Speech and Drama

● Guide teachers and students in the Upper Elementary in how to use Speech and Drama as a means to explore ideas and curriculum content, express their thoughts and feelings about topics and show their learning.

● Help students understand how to useSpeech and Drama express themselves as part of maintaining their well-being

● Lead the performance of a yearly school production each year, in collaboration with the Music Department or other departments where appropriate

● Take a Speech and Drama CCA each term

● Liaise with the AP for Enrichment regarding involvement in CCAs and special events

Curriculum and Pedagogy

● Meet with the AP for Curriculum and Assessment (LE/UE) each term to develop and review the Speech and Drama curriculum and curriculum integration.

● To teach drama lessons that engage students and improve their communication skills.

● To assist classroom teachers to implement drama activities into the curriculum.

● Make use of Digital Technology in the teaching and learning of Speech and Drama

● To further develop the schools performance programme including productions, concerts and mixed media productions.

● To lead media and performing Arts CCAs and work with outside providers to ensure a balanced programme that ensures progression

● To work with teachers and coaches to improve the practices of others in regards to drama, media and communication.

Assessment and Reporting

● Assess each student’s progress during their work on the Speech and Drama Curriculum against defined learning outcomes.

● Report on student progress through the termly reporting system.

● Share drama activities and learning through Seesaw.

Collaboration and Relationship Management

● Work with the Assistant Principal for Enrichment on matters relating to the Drama and Media enrichment CCAs.

● Communicate with classroom teachers, and the Head of Music, in the organisation of class performances and concerts.

● Work with outside agencies to bring different Speech and Drama opportunities into the school.

Resource management

● Maintain, and grow, the schools costume and prop resources as well as the media suite

and its equipment.

● Manage the Speech and Drama and allocate and source resources appropriately

● Lead professional learning on all equipment relating to drama, media, and performing arts such as microphones, lighting, camera, stagecraft etc.

General Areas of responsibility

● Be an advocate of the school and its decisions during interactions with students, staff and the community.

● Lead in nurturing a Lasallian Catholic ethos by building upon the legacy and tradition of the school firmly anchored in Faith, Service and Community

● Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and students

● Be a role model within the school in terms of professional expertise and conduct and lead by example

● Treat others fairly and with respect in order to create and maintain a positive school

culture

● Build a collaborative learning culture within the school and manage innovation and change

● Inform and support the SLT as needed

● Take on specific tasks related to the day-to-day administration and organisation of the

school as requested by the Principal or SLT

● Support the PRD and performance management process as required to help staff develop goals and improve professional effectiveness

● Collaborate with a member of SLT through the Quality Assurance process

● Support staff in meeting personal and professional goals

Job requirements

● Bachelor Degree in teaching and/or Speech and Drama plus a teaching qualification

● 3 or more years of international school teaching experience with students from 4 to 12 years old

● Proven experience of leading school performances
