Job overview

We are seeking to employ a Sports Coach Graduate for the 2024-2025 Academic Year to contribute to our sports, physical education and boarding programs. We are looking for an individual with experience as a player or early-career coach in football. Experience of playing or coaching in the US collegiate system is desirable.

A graduate placement year in the sports department of Millfield School (senior) will provide an unrivalled opportunity to develop your skills in one of the UK’s leading Independent Schools for boys and girls, aged 13-18 years.

Candidates should either be enrolled in or recently graduated from Sports Science, Sports Coaching, or similar degrees. Applicants will have participated regularly in their sport to a good standard and ideally hold coaching qualifications in relevant activities.

Graduates with onsite accommodation will work 39 hours per week which will be divided between Sport, Futures and boarding commitments (an average of 6 hours per week on evening duties in the boarding programme and one weekend in three). You will receive £13,732.57 salary per annum along with full board and lodgings (non-monetary, to the value of £3,006.99 per annum).

Graduates not living in Millfield accommodation will not be expected to contribute towards the boarding programme and will work the full 39 hours per week in their sports department, receiving £17,182.31 per annum.

There is a formal personal development programme provided as part of the placement opportunity which is overseen by the Head of Sports Coaching and many expert staff within the department. This has a value more than £2,500.

The modern world is highly competitive and the way we prepare our children for its demands is more important than ever. Young people today are subject to great pressures and it takes strong personalities to avoid the traps that life has lying in wait. Hence a good school must seek to develop confidence and maturity in all its pupils whatever their strengths and weaknesses.

All individuals have different needs and therefore a variety of opportunities must be available to enable each one to achieve success. They must learn to apply themselves to academic work but must also be encouraged to express their other talents.

With its outstanding facilities, a staff:pupil ratio of 1:7.5, an extraordinary range of academic courses and the unrivalled strength of its extra-curricular programme, Millfield strives to achieve all these aims. It also seeks to move with the times whilst maintaining the important traditions of good manners, discipline and respect for others.

We pride ourselves on the richness and diversity of the Millfield experience as well as the friendly atmosphere within our community.
