Strength and Conditioning Coach (Football)

Position Overview

The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs to improve the athletic performance of our football players. This role involves working closely with coaches and the wider staff to ensure that players are in peak physical condition and able to perform at their best throughout the season.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation:

Design and implement comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of football players.

Create individualised workout plans based on player fitness tests and position-specific requirements.

Incorporate a variety of training methods, including resistance training, speed and agility drills, cardiovascular conditioning, and flexibility exercises.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Conduct fitness tests twice a year and performance evaluations to establish baselines and track player progress.

Use data from assessments to adjust training programs and ensure they are effective and appropriate.

Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation:

Collaborate with coaches and medical staff to design programs that reduce the risk of injuries.

Assist in the rehabilitation process of injured players by developing and monitoring rehabilitation programs.

Player Education and Motivation:

Educate players via workshops on proper nutrition, recovery techniques, and lifestyle choices that can enhance their performance.

Motivate and inspire players to achieve their fitness goals and maintain high levels of commitment.

Collaboration and Communication:

Keep a register of players using the gym and flag up any players that aren’t to the coaching staff.

Work closely with the head coach and other staff to integrate strength and conditioning programs into the overall team strategy.

Communicate regularly with coaches about player progress and any concerns that arise.

Facility and Equipment Management:

Maintain strength and conditioning facilities and ensure that all equipment is in good working order.

Implement safety protocols and ensure that all training activities are conducted in a safe environment.

Qualifications

Certifications: Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing, CPR and First Aid Certification.

Experience: Prior experience working with youth football players and in a school setting is preferable.

Skills:

Strong understanding of strength and conditioning principles and practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire athletes.

Proficiency in using fitness assessment tools and software.

Knowledge of nutrition and sports psychology.

Work Environment

The position requires working in a gym, on the field, and in various training facilities.

Physical demands include demonstrating exercises, spotting athletes, and lifting weights.

Hour of work: 6 hours per week during term time
