Job overview

We want to continue to appoint teaching staff who are passionate about their subject and who want to make a difference for the students in our care.

We are seeking to appoint a talented, ambitious and innovative teacher to take on the role of Subject Lead in our Hospitality and Catering department. The role is suitable for current Subject Leads or experienced teachers looking to take on additional responsibilities.

Hospitality and Catering falls under our STEM curriculum and is not delivered as part of a rotation. The subject is taught from Year 7 through to Year 11. The Academy is open to delivering the subject at Level 3.

The department has well equipped facilities including desk space, demo area, student kitchen and office space. As a member of our team you will be supported by a Director of Learning and work alongside a full time subject specific technician. The department’s generous budget allows for a range of skills and dishes to be explored at both KS3 and KS4. There is also a separate budget to support practical lessons for all KS3 students so that no one is disadvantaged.

The Bourne Academy believes that a solid understanding of nutrition and cooking is valuable and vital for all students. We are committed to ensuring students are experienced with the subject knowledge and skills which equip them for independent, healthy living and successful careers within the catering industry.

We welcome students of all abilities and from all backgrounds. We are an Academy in the heart of the community and so we take the time to get to know and understand each student, supporting them to do their very best. We believe that everyone is a learner and everyone is a teacher.

The Bourne Academy

The Bourne Academy is at the heart of the community of East Howe, offering local families an excellent education, new opportunities and facilities that are available to everyone.  It aims to raise students’ expectations, build their self-confidence, and teach them appropriate skills that allow them to build a successful career and contribute to society.  Our sponsors are Canford School, a leading independent school.

Canford believes that good education depends crucially on the relationships that are built up between staff, students, parents and the other stakeholders.  Mutual support, pride, ambition, trust and high expectations all combine to allow impressive educational achievements against a background of respect for each other and an acknowledgement of each other’s contributions.

Key to building these relationships is the pastoral care at the Academy and the links between the Academy, parents and others in the local community, helped by the academy’s central location in East Howe.
