“The quality of teaching is good. Pupils take a pride in their work”
Ofsted 2019
The governors are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic leader of our PE department. In the first instance we are looking for an Easter 2024 start (a September 2024 start would also be considered). The successful candidate will have a clear vision of how the teaching of PE should develop over the next few years. They will be able to implement a challenging curriculum at KS3 that motivates our pupils and secures good progress for our KS4 students who have chosen to study PE and dance at GCSE level. They will be able to work well as part of team and have the management skills to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the department.
The PE department is well-equipped with a gymnasium, dance studio, fitness suite and outdoor court and field areas. PE is an important part of life at Pittville School. It forms a key part of our teaching curriculum at KS3, and PE and dance are both popular option subjects. PE is offered as a GCSE or BTEC, depending upon the needs of each cohort. At present, we are in the process of securing funding and planning permission for a new sports hall, so in due course the person appointed will be involved in moving to these new facilities.
We are committed to an extensive extra-curricular programme with improving standards of success at school and county level. PE also plays a central part in the school house system, culminating in our whole school sports day, held at the Prince of Wales Stadium. We are looking for a candidate with the passion to drive and develop our current extra-curricular provision.
Pittville School is a good 11-16 school situated in a superb setting in the heart of Cheltenham. We were oversubscribed at KS3 in September 2023. In June 2019 Ofsted said stated that standards they attain are rising year on year and we are particularly proud that visitors to our school always comment on the excellent behaviour and attitude to learning exhibited by our pupils. We are part of the Balcarras Teaching Hub partnership which provides the school with a range of continual professional development opportunities in addition to those offered at Pittville.
We think this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced PE teacher to join our school and contribute to the further success of physical education at Pittville at a very exciting time in our development. Please contact Alison Bawdon on 01242 524787 or download an information pack from the school’s website: www.pittville.gloucs.sch.uk or by emailing jobs@pittville.gloucs.sch.uk
Closing date for application is Monday 5th February 2024
