The Governors wish to appoint a Support Assistant (Cover Supervisor) to join our existing team and to support students throughout the school. We welcome applications from those who have experience of the role or those who would be new to the role. The successful applicant will be hard working, flexible, and have excellent communication skills. It is essential that any applicant enjoys working with and supporting young people, as this is an essential part of the role. The post involves covering lessons when there are teacher absences, using materials posted on the Teams platform. The successful candidate would also need to be prepared to support the Catholic/Christian ethos at St Mary’s in this role. Full training and unstinting support will be available, to allow the successful candidate to flourish in the post. English to GCSE or equivalent is required.
St Mary’s is a very popular and happy school, rated Outstanding by the Diocese and Ofsted. We became an academy in 2013 and enjoy outstanding facilities in a new building, which opened in 2011. We joined the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust in June 2020. We are also very popular with parents and are one of the most over-subscribed schools in the North-East. The roll has grown from around 1100 five years ago to over 1440 by September 2024, with 5 main school year groups of around 235 and a Sixth Form of approximately 270 students. We expect the Sixth Form to continue to grow in the next couple of years, as strongly academic year groups continue to move into Sixth Form.
This is a wonderful opportunity to join a highly successful and forward-thinking school.
As an Outstanding school, St Mary’s plays a leading role within the Trust and more widely, leading significant school improvement, training and leadership development across other schools, as well as sharing good practice in academic achievement and teaching and learning across many other schools in the north-east. We also play a leading role in teacher training across the region. Many opportunities for professional development and further training would be available.
If you require any further information about the post, please do not hesitate to contact Danielle Largue, Deputy Headteacher on 0191 215 3268.
Application packs are available to download here, from our school website, or by e-mailing the Director of Finance and Support Services, louise.douds@st-marys.newcastle.sch.uk.
Closing date: 9.00 am on Wednesday 11th December 2024. Interviews are likely to be held shortly after this.
The school is fully committed to safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
