Padworth College is seeking to appoint a full time English as an Additional Language Teacher to deliver a range of English language courses onsite to students aged from 14 to 19 years old. 

Padworth College:

Padworth College is an international boarding school which prepares students from a wide range of nationalities for entry into the British universities. We are expanding our provision to be able to offer a bespoke course which supports students who need to improve their English before moving on to take GCSEs, A Levels or IFY courses.

Teachers act as a tutor, working with students to set academic targets and support learners in meeting them. Teachers also take on a significant responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of their students. 

Experience and Qualifications:

We require a degree level qualification and a CELTA or equivalent qualification. Must be able to demonstrate good organisational skills, precision in lesson planning and confident, enthusiastic classroom delivery. Experience of teaching Cambridge English exams and EAP is desirable, as is a willingness to get involved in the community.

Reporting to: Head of EAL, Director of Studies and Principal

Salary: This will be based on the Padworth College scale and will depend on qualifications and experience. Teachers will also be part of the College’s pension scheme.

Teachers are required to carry out general duties and responsibilities in addition to their teaching and pastoral responsibilities.  

Hours of work: The teaching load is up to 24 hours per week, the College Day has 8 teaching periods of 45 minutes per day. Timetabled teaching is from Monday to Friday. The College Day is 08:30-16:45 Monday to Friday. In addition, teachers are expect

Located in Reading, Berkshire, Padworth College is a co-educational independent senior school. First established in 1963, the school became co-educational in 2005. The school has around 100 pupils aged 14-19, making it far smaller than the average secondary school. Padworth College occupies an 18-acre site, and is mainly housed in an 18th Century manor house. Despite this, the school can boast of a wide range of modern, high-quality teaching and recreational facilities. The school primarily accepts boarding pupils, although a small number of day pupils are in attendance.

“The school is very successful in meeting its aims. The large majority of pupils are working in English as their second language and, as such, their achievements and learning are good. Pupils achieve good results in national examinations and make excellent progress overall. They benefit from a good curriculum, appropriate to their specific needs, although provision for physical education and sport is limited.”
