General

We are seeking a passionate and experienced sixth form Geography teacher to join our faculty at the International School of London. The teacher will also be responsible for managing the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within the context of a broader Individuals and Societies (I&S) curriculum following the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 1. Core responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the development of IB Diploma and Individuals and Societies Middle Years Programme through collaborative planning with relevant staff.
  • Oversee managing all aspects of teaching and learning, including curriculum development; assessment and reporting; management of rooms and resources to create a safe and visually appealing learning environment; regular refreshment of displays and showcasing of work
  • Participate fully in an expanding the I&S program in the school.

  

2. Accountability

  • Implement the IB courses in alignment with the school’s strategic plan for departments and student agency
  • Participate in department meetings, liaising with key staff as appropriate
  • Participate in professional learning and contribute to regular staff training/meetings

 

3. Academic Quality

  • Create an inclusive, challenging and supportive learning environment
  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and inquiry amongst students
  • Utilize various teaching methods, resources, and technology to enhance learning outcomes
  • Assess student progress through regular evaluations, examinations, and assessments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth
  • Through differentiated and personalised instruction, be able to inspire diverse classes, creating individualised, challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students
  • Keep records of student progress and work with students to provide interventions to help them achieve their academic goals
  • Implement curriculum policy and strategic plans in lessons
  • Liaise with colleagues and curriculum leaders to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum to specified classes, including selecting resources and managing them efficiently in the classroom
  • Design, develop, implement, and review the IB I&S programme according to the IB standards.
  • Contribute to the extra-curricular activities programme of the school

 

4. Community

  • Contribute to the development of the I&S Programmes, and their outreach into the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, etc.

 

5. Administration

  • Coordinate with the I&S head of department to draft all communication about events in relation to courses to parents, other staff and the wider ISL community as appropriate
  • As per department guidelines input marks for learners as required



6. Communication

  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner suitable for students at various levels of understanding
  • Flexibility to adjust communication style and content according to the age, comprehension level, and learning styles of students across the curriculum.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with fellow educators, discussing curriculum development, lesson planning, and sharing best practices.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and informative materials such as lesson plans, assessments, and reports for students and administrative purposes.


7. Finances

  • Working with the head of department, be involved with the annual budget for I&S courses as needed, making proposals for the best use of funds
  • Ensure all I&S resources are properly budgeted
  • Manage the deployment of resources – keeping shelves, cupboards, rooms and areas ordered and tidy

 

8. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Secondary School Teaching qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geography or related field of study within Humanities
  • Minimum of two years’ classroom teaching experience, with DP or A-levels Geography an advantage.
  • Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate curriculum framework is preferred but not required, as training can be given
  • Previous experience with the IB Diploma Programme is preferred but not required, as training can be given
  • Proven capacities and an interest in working with international students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
