The Role

Computer Science is currently taken by approximately half of students at LUSoM, and due to the current size of the school means there is only one teaching post for Computer Science. We are open to applications from both teachers and those looking for a middle leadership post who can take on the accountability for results, curriculum design, and development of extension and outreach tasks. Our outreach work aims to inspire more students to take STEM at A-level and so the successful candidate will be involved in delivering sessions to high school students.

An indication of the main duties and responsibilities the role may entail are detailed below:

  • To develop the Computer Science provision at LUSoM including all aspects of planning and resourcing inorder to deliver high quality lessons which achieve excellent student outcomes.
  • To teach in a manner that inspires students, taking them beyond the A-level syllabus, and effectively promotes further study in the subject.
  • To set, mark and record work in accordance with the Maths School assessment policy.
  • To monitor student progress and plan and implement intervention strategies for students who are not making sufficient progress in the subject.
  • To assist and contribute to the school’s Quality Assurance Cycle, analysing internal assessment results,reflecting carefully and critically on learning and teaching strategies in light of these, and making changes where appropriate with the support of the Head of School
  • To ensure the delivery of Computer Science follows all the Trust's policies and procedures, working with the IT support team where necessary

As part of the Rigby Education Trust, with Lancaster University and Cardinal Newman College, students receive exceptional teaching, first-class facilities, and a high-quality enrichment programme that encourages the practical application of maths and brings in industry experts to the classroom. The curriculum is extended beyond Maths and Further Maths A Level to provide a stretching and inspiring education.
