Teacher

Pay details: £29,680 - £41,139 plus SEN allowance

Who we are:

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people. Since 1962, we’ve been transforming lives, changing attitudes and helping to create a society that works for autistic adults and children. We transform lives by providing support, guidance and practical advice for the 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, as well as their three million family members and carers. Autistic people turn to us at key moments or challenging times in their lives, be it getting a diagnosis, going to school or finding work. We change attitudes by improving public understanding of autism and the difficulties many autistic people face. We also work closely with businesses, local authorities and government to help them provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws. We have come a long way but it is not good enough. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for people on the spectrum. With your help, we can make it happen.

What we can offer you:

  • Teachers' pension scheme
  • Excellent induction, training and development programme including training about autism and opportunities to attend our conferences
  • Online staff discount scheme for a range of benefits (cycle to work scheme, season ticket loan)
  • Access to a 24-hour employee assistance programme
  • Access to the Headspace App

Who we are looking for:

A qualified Class Teacher who would love a challenge. Are you looking for a post that will be exciting, professionally demanding, stimulating and rewarding in equal measures? Do you have a sense of humour? Are you naturally resilient and a team player who can work collaboratively in a multi professional team? And, most importantly are you a highly skilled creative teacher who can ensure every pupil makes good progress from individual starting points. If you have genuine passion and enthusiasm for making a difference and can deliver engaging lessons across the curriculum we want to hear from you.

You will:

  • Embrace the changing landscape in specialist education and oversee the development and operational management of your class and class team with the support of the UK’s leading charity for people with autism.
  • Create a distinctive culture and philosophy so that from the moment a person enters the building they will know this is a school where autistic pupils are respected, and are empowered to make positive choices about their own lives and have rich and varied experiences.

To be considered for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate strong class teacher qualities and practice (including those of innovation and vision), as well as demonstrating specialist ASD knowledge (through experience and practice). When providing a supporting statement, please refer to the job description here and include any information that shows your suitability for the role.

Applications for this job are sought from anyone who is suitably qualified and experienced for the role but particularly welcome from those with a diagnosis of autism. The National Autistic Society is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and adults who use our services and as such expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to complete the relevant safeguarding checks. We are an equal opportunities employer. Please click here to view the safeguarding policy and please click here to view the policy and procedure for employment of ex-offenders. This role will be subjected to an enhanced DBS check.

Special Educations Needs Independent School Radlett Lodge is a small school with just 55 pupils 5-19. This means staff and pupils get to know each other well. We develop trusting relationships which in turn make sure that our young people are equipped to make their own choices in life and have the chance to be as independent as they want to be. At Radlett Lodge we celebrate the achievements of all of our pupils and recognise that what some might see as a tiny step can be the biggest of challenges. Every Friday, we have a celebration assembly for the whole school where we mark individual occassions (such as birthdays or personal development milestones) as well as cultural and public celebrations, considering how they reflect our school, community and British values. Life at Radlett Lodge is always fun. We have a distinct sense of community and helping children and young people feel they belong both in the school and in our wider neighbourhood is highly important to us.

Enabling our pupils to be the best version of themselves!
