Ashton Sixth Form College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate Teacher of Biology and Applied Science to join an already strong and well-established team of dedicated, specialist teachers.
The Biology and Applied Science department is a thriving department that offers Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate and Extended Diploma courses following the Pearson specification. The Biology department offers A-level Biology following the AQA specification and GCSE Biology following the AQA specification.
The Applied Science and Biology department have 5 dedicated teaching labs and share other science classrooms where required including dedicated computer suites. Each classroom is fitted with a 65-inch TV screen connected to a PC and is well resourced with necessary and up-to-date scientific equipment.
Science is a very popular department in the college for students. There are currently 9 members of staff who contribute to the Applied Science courses (6 full-time and 3 part-time) and 5 members of staff who contribute to the A-level Biology and GCSE Science courses (2 full-time and 3 part-time). The science department also offers courses in Chemistry, Geology, Computer Science and Physics. The Science department is supported by 2 full-time science technicians.
Currently there are 136 students studying the Level BTEC Extended Certificate in Applied Science, 76 students studying the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science, 14 students studying GCSE Biology (evening class) and 299 students studying A-level Biology.
The department prides itself on a very rich enrichment offering for students which includes but is not limited to: University trips to experience their lab facilities, guest speakers covering topics such as applications of qraphene, career insight sessions with paramedics, an annual ecology trip to Ainsdale beach and much more! The department has a hands on, practical and student centred approach to teaching and welcomes new ideas and approaches to embellish the student experience.

Ashton Sixth Form College is the founding organisation of Stamford Park Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust established in February 2019. All members of staff at Ashton Sixth Form College are employed by Stamford Park Trust.
The College is in the top 10% in the country for student progress on vocational courses and the top 25% in the country for A Level value added. The college achieved an "Outstanding" rating in its last Ofsted inspection in January 2020. The college has been recognised as one of the top ten Sixth Form Colleges in the north-west and is a major provider of quality academic and vocational post 16 education.

Ashton Sixth Form College is the leading provider of 16-18 education in the area. The college is located in Tameside, Greater Manchester and supports around 2,000+ students on A-Level and vocational programmes. The college also offers a number of Adult and Higher Education courses.
