Job overview

Kelvinside Academy is an independent, HMC co-educational day school of some 600 pupils aged 3-18 in the west end of Glasgow.

We seek a capable and enthusiastic individual who will teach a wide range of classes and help to inspire innovative thinking in our pupils.

Computing Science forms part of the compulsory core curriculum within the school, with all students following a comprehensive Computing Science course from P7, leading for some to presentation at National 5 in S4. Computing Science is offered at both higher and advanced higher levels in S5 and S6.

We also provide a unique course in Digital Learning and Innovation for our pupils from P7 to S3. This course aims to give all Kelvinside pupils the opportunity to learn using the latest digital technology and create innovative leaders of the future.

The person appointed will be required to teach a full range of courses including presentation level. There may be opportunities for suitably qualified teachers to contribute to other subjects.

The post which is a full-time, permanent one, would suit either a new or an experienced teacher.

The school aims to bring out the best in every pupil, combining high standards of teaching and a superb extra-curricular programme within an inclusive and caring ethos. Sport, outdoor pursuits, music, drama and art flourish, together with a range of clubs and societies. There is strong participation in the Cadet Forces and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school is essential.

The salary is based on the main national teachers’ scale and there is an additional KA allowance. Please contact the PA to the Rector (patorector@kelvinside.org) for further details and an application pack.

About Kelvinside Academy

Kelvinside Academy is a leading independent school in the West of Scotland catering for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18.

The school comprises 3 stages: Nursery, Preparatory and the Senior School. All are located on the one site, and a key feature of the Kelvinside Academy experience is the seamless progression from stage to stage.

With a commitment to small classes, the school seeks to provide an environment in which the individual will flourish.

Although academically selective, the school still caters for a reasonably wide range of abilities, which enables a firm priority to be given to the admission of younger brothers and sisters.

Over 90% of leavers usually proceed to degree courses at university. The majority go to Scottish Universities, however there is always a number who go to university in the South, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Good manners and standards of behaviour are insisted upon in a friendly but disciplined atmosphere.

Pastoral care of the highest quality ensures that each boy and girl receives individual nurture and support.

Hard work, commitment and achievement are equally valued by the school. Indeed, we want to attract boys and girls with enthusiasm, an appetite for all that's on offer: they will emerge as well rounded, confident individuals - hallmarks of the Kelvinside Academical.
