Job overview

Would you like to be part of a school recently confirmed as GOOD by Ofsted (April 2023)?

"Pupils are happy to attend this school. The school’s values include honesty, excellence, ambition, respect and teamwork. The school’s culture is rooted in these values. There are positive relationships between staff and pupils. Staff have high expectations, and pupils live up to these."

"Staff are proud to work at the school. They feel well supported by leaders in respect of workload, well-being and managing pupils’ behaviour. Staff value the professional development they receive."

If so, you will not want to miss out on this opportunity to join our growing Social Studies Department.

We are delighted to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for a colleague to join our growing Social Studies faculty. This currently comprises Health & Social Care and Psychology at KS4 & 5, Sociology and Criminology at KS5 and Religious Studies at all key stages.

Why come to Latimer? This is a fantastic school to work in: as a result of our success and popularity we are over-subscribed and have a very strong local reputation. On interview we ask candidates for their impressions and without fail they comment on how wonderful our students are, the supportive team ethos amongst staff and how friendly the welcome is.

We are a tight-knit unit striving for the very best for our students and we are focussed on, and passionate about, learning and success.

We genuinely care about our staff, their well-being and their professional development: we are a happy team, committed to working collaboratively and sharing the very best practice.  We have a strong track record of succession planning and many of our current staff have progressed internally to promoted posts.

If you are an outstanding teacher it really is worth applying for this post. We are seeking to appoint a candidate who has experience of, or a willingness to, teach the following: Criminology at KS5 and Psychology at either KS4 or 5.

We welcome applications from ECTs and we run a highly supportive and successful Early Career Framework programme. If you are a trainee and looking for a post, we would love to hear from you.  We also have a strong track record of leadership development and succession planning and would be interested in an ambitious candidate who is keen to progress to leadership in the future.

The Latimer Arts College values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

For an application form and further details, please visit the teaching vacancies page on our website www.latimer.org.uk. Alternatively, please email vacancies@latimer.org.uk

Closing date: 9.00am on Wednesday 18 September 2024.

Early applications are encouraged as we will review applications as we receive them; applicants may be contacted before the closing date.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

At The Latimer Arts College, we are a community.  Together, we are committed to ensuring that everyone in our school is happy, feels safe and is valued. We are over-subscribed, with approximately 1200 students aged 11-18 who are nurtured and guided through their education in a purposeful and caring community ethos based on respect for all.

With our students at the heart of all that we do, we encourage each member of the community to uphold our core values of Honesty, Excellence, Ambition, Respect and Teamwork.  We encourage the development of core characteristics and skills, such as leadership and resilience to ensure students leave with the skills required for employment and future success. We also model the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs.  We aim to make a positive contribution to both our local community and the wider society.

We have a passionate belief in the value of a well-rounded education and it is our intention to unlock the true potential within each and every individual, whatever that may be. We work collectively to motivate our students to place no boundaries on their ambitions, no limits on their aspirations and remove any barriers to their achievement.  Through our high expectations we want to inspire our students to achieve excellence and be the best that they can be.

Our staff are one of the secrets of our success and so we are fully committed to their wellbeing and professional development.

We seek to appoint staff who thrive on collaboration, innovation and a desire to be amazing: colleagues who will have a passion for improving student achievement and personal development and be bursting with ideas as to how to achieve this. It is our job to nurture you to deliver this success.

We have a highly successful induction programme for new staff, including an ECT programme, and we offer an extensive range of training throughout this.

We are committed to the DfE Education Staff Wellbeing Charter and have a varied programme of activities and support in place for our staff. This is responsive and evolves annually based on context and needs, with our staff voice being instrumental in shaping what we provide.  We have a very small staff turnover and staff morale is high, this was evident in the last Ofsted report and in regular staff voice, as well as by the fact that staff choose to send their own children to the school.

We are passionate about supporting professional development so that we can ensure we are equipping our staff team with the skills, knowledge and understanding that they need to not only fulfil their roles but most importantly to be fulfilled by their roles.

The Wider Curriculum

We have a thriving House system, with two forms from each year group making up one of our four Houses. This system epitomises the caring, community ethos, and encourages a little healthy competition too!

At The Latimer Arts College we passionately believe that participation in enrichment activities plays a significant contribution to personal growth and high academic  achievement.  That is why we provide a range of extended opportunities throughout, and beyond, the academic year. There is an expectation that all staff will offer enrichment and this is factored into directed time.

Our Facilities

Ensuring that our staff and students can thrive in a positive learning environment is one of our key priorities. Each learning area is well-equipped with the specialist resources that individual subjects require.

Significant investment has been made in the site in recent years which means that we are the proud owners of a state-of-the-art Science Block, the Masque Theatre, a multi-use Sports Centre and a 4G all-weather pitch. In addition to this we have a separate Sixth Form and Staff Café and a new Sixth Form Centre is opening soon.  Not only do these provide great facilities during the school day, but they are also available for community use.

We continue to invest and innovate to improve the learning environment for all. The Latimer Arts College provides an excellent environment to both teach and learn in.
