JRCS

This is a great opportunity to join a highly successful school as part of a friendly and very hard working department. Established as a brand new school in 2002, we moved into our award-winning £30 million accommodation in 2005. The school is located within easy reach of central London via the District Line and yet just minutes by car from the Essex countryside.

This year Jo Richardson achieved another set of outstanding outcomes at GCSE and A level. At KS4 students at Jo Richardson perform significantly better than students nationally. The school’s KS4 Progress 8 score is +0.46 which is significantly above national average (FFT). At KS5 the progress score is also positive and the average grade for A-levels is a strong C+. The school’s most recent OFSTED report described the school as good with outstanding leadership and governance and outstanding spiritual, moral, social and cultural provision. Academic rigour runs alongside a commitment to extra-curricular activities such as our trips to Rome, Berlin, France, the WWI trenches in Ypres, skiing in the USA, Borneo and our highly regarded Duke of Edinburgh programme. New staff are encouraged to participate in trips. The school is also committed to professional development. Wednesday afternoons are devoted to CPD and the school has a very strong record of developing staff; nearly half of the Heads of Department and Heads of Year joined the school as NQTs, as did one member of the Senior Leadership Team. Please visit the “join us as a member of staff” page of our award-winning website to learn more about what makes JRCS such a special place to work.

We pride ourselves in being a truly inclusive school that actively promotes ‘Success for All’. We hold the highest academic standards and offer our students a wide range of opportunities to pursue their studies both inside and outside the classroom. Our extensive range of extra-curricular activities and trips is second to none and ensures all students get the chance to extend their academic, social and culture experiences outside of the classroom.

DT at JRCS

The Design Technology department is part of a faculty working closely with the food department. The faculty is housed in its own wing with purpose built facilities for teaching each of the specialisms offered. At key stage three, all students follow an in-depth curriculum and assessment plan. Key Stage 3 students have fortnightly lessons in design technology; Y7/8 across two academic terms & 1 term is allocated to food technology.

At Key stage 4, we currently offer GCSE Product Design (OCR), BTEC Engineering and BTEC Construction as options for those students wishing to continue with design technology.

We are looking to appoint an outstanding, innovative and inspirational design technology teacher who can teach design technology at Key Stage 3. The ability to teach Product Design at Key Stage 4 is desirable.

High quality induction, including a two week NQT school-based immersion programme in July, is available to all staff at JRCS as part of our strong commitment to continuing professional development.

Please log onto our website www.jorichardson.org.uk for further details about the school, this post, a link to our recent Ofsted report and the application process itself. All applications should be made online by clicking the ‘Apply Now' link. Please contact Margaret Stone on recruitment@jorichardson.org.uk if you wish to arrange a visit to the school.

JRCS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Vision of the School

At The Jo Richardson Community School we are committed to reaching the highest standards in everything we do. We want all our students to achieve the best possible examination results as well as have the opportunity to take part in the widest range of extra-curricular activities. We strongly believe this can only happen in a well-ordered and respectful environment where only the highest standards of behaviour are acceptable, and where all our teachers are fully committed and able to ensure our goals become a reality.

Success For All

Central to our work is the motto ‘Success For All’ which underpins our belief that every individual has the opportunity to gain high quality academic qualifications. These enable students to progress to college, university or a good job when they leave us. The curriculum we offer provides both a wide range of traditional academic subjects as well as more practical work-related courses.

We also want our students to develop opportunities to succeed outside the classroom. Our extra-curricular provision provides a range of opportunities for achievement that will develop confidence and build self-esteem. Our student council also plays an important role within the school, and is just one example of how we seek to develop our students’ leadership skills.

None of this can be achieved, however, if the ethos isn’t right. We believe it is our responsibility to make sure students feel happy and secure at school. We do not tolerate any disruptive behaviour that has an effect upon the progress of others.

We operate a bullying and behaviour policy based on zero tolerance. In the rare event that a student is involved in bullying or in disrupting lessons they are automatically excluded from school and not allowed back into circulation until we are confident that problems will not recur. We make no apology for the hard line we take in this respect – students need to know they can come to school free from the fear of intimidation, and where their lessons will be focused on achieving academic success.
