Job overview

Burlington House School is a unique and successful Independent Day School in London for children with dyslexia and associated SpLDs, consisting of separate Prep, Secondary and Sixth Form sites in Hammersmith and Fulham. An additional Senior School site opened in Tooting this year.

“Burlington House is fast becoming London’s gold-standard for specialist education” (Good Schools Guide, 2023).

We are seeking to appoint a full-time Design and Technology (3D Design) teacher to deliver Yr6 - Yr11 DT, up to GCSE level, as part of our highly successful Art and Design Department.

This position will be based at the Burlington House Senior School site in Fulham. Class sizes are favourable, with an average of 10 pupils per class at Key Stage 2 and 3 and very small groups at GCSE Level. Candidates should have excellent skills in ICT, communication, organisation as well as in-depth subject area knowledge, including practical use of DT machinery and tools. All staff and pupils are provided with a laptop computer.

We offer an excellent professional development and remuneration package and the opportunity to apply and develop your expertise in a genuinely all-through educational setting. Burlington House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. You will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

"The school’s learning environment focuses on the arts, drama and physical education, catering to children who may not thrive in a mainstream setting. Burlington has helped students achieve the best GCSE results for an SpLD specialist school in the UK." (The Week UK's Schools Review, 2024).

Burlington House School’s focus on the arts, including Art and Design, is central to the way we support our pupils to discover their own pathway to success. This opportunity is perfect for someone who wants to make a real difference to young people’s lives, as well as develop their professional standing in the fastest-growing group of specialist schools in the sector.

About Burlington House School

About Burlington House School

Burlington House School was established in 1998 as a pioneering school to allow children with Dyslexia the opportunity to access an academic education. Focussing on pupil personal development Burlington House School is at the forefront of bespoke education for not only SpLD but also any child who struggles in a traditional classroom. Our expertise in special needs education has provided us with unique insight into how children learn and how to build tailored programmes that help them maximise their potential.

Classes are typically small allowing the time for different learning styles to be tailored to each student. Pupils follow the National Curriculum and study towards their GCSE’s with the idea of moving to further and higher education. Difficulties like Dyslexia are catered for, but are not the main focus. Koen Claeys, Principal says, "Burlington House School is mainstream in structure, specialist in nature’

Throughout its tenure, Burlington House has had numerous accolades for its approach to teaching, including winning the TES Award in 2015 for ‘Most value-added’, and shortlisted for 'Special needs initiative of the Year' 2020 and 'Specialist Provision of the Year' 2022, and shortlisted for 'Prep School of the year' 2023.
