The Role

We are looking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Teacher of Design & Technology on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. The position will suit an experienced or newly qualified teacher.

St Helena School has a robust CPD training programme that allows our staff to flourish. In addition to internal CPD at St Helena, staff have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the Sigma Trust to share resources, ideas and build collaborative relationships. Excellent support is provided by The Sigma Trust, a large and local trust of schools.


  • This is a maternity cover post, fixed term until November 2025.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and deliver high quality, well-structured Design & Technology lessons to pupils at KS3 and KS4 level
  • Deliver engaging Design & Technology lessons that are adapted and will engage students in the learning process.
  • Maintain an understanding of curriculum developments in the subject
  • Contribute to the pastoral work of the school through the role of Form Tutor

Ideally you will:

  • Have experience of teaching Design & Technology
  • QTS is desirable for this post but not essential with the right candidate
  • Have excellent subject knowledge and a passion for inspiring future generations
  • Have excellent teaching and learning practice, planning, delivering and evaluating successful lessons
  • Have experience of, and commitment to, the education of the whole person promoting social and emotional well-being in addition to academic development
  • Have high expectations of students and colleagues
  • Be prepared to teach other areas of the Design & Technology curriculum on occasion
