About The Minster School
The Minster School is a highly successful secondary school, serving the local community of Southwell and surrounding villages. As a Church of England Academy we have a strong ethos which is based around our values of Wisdom, Optimism, Resilience, Kindness and Service through which we live and breath our motto of Succeeding Together. The school currently has 1600 students on role including 350 students in the sixth form and 40 students in the Junior School. We are oversubscribed and are regularly in the top schools in Nottinghamshire for attainment and progress.
Alongside serving our own students, we are a national support school, the home school of East Midlands East Maths Hub and lead a Learning Alliance providing Initial Teacher Training, Professional Learning and School Improvement support. The Minster School is also the foundation school in the Minster Trust for Education (MITRE).
The school can trace its origins to 956AD where it provided the education to the choristers of Southwell Minster. Whilst still maintaining its heritage and history the school is now a vibrant and forward-looking academy housed in a state-of-the-art building built in 2007. We are passionate about learning and developing new ways to engage, challenge and support students in their studies.
As a school we believe strongly that students should have a broad and immersive experience throughout their school life. As a result, enrichment remains a key part of our provision. Whether it be our highly anticipated musical productions, sporting success or our wide variety of extra-curricular visits, we believe that learning should flourish beyond the classroom.
At the heart of all that we do is a drive to enable all members of our school community to work together, care for each other and strive to realise their potential in their studies and all other aspects of life.
An extract from our last Ofsted inspection (November 2023):
“The school is very well led and managed. Leaders lead with a strong moral purpose. They have high expectations of pupils’ learning, attitudes and behaviour. Overwhelmingly, staff say that they are proud to work at the school. They have high aspirations for all pupils. They are committed to, and make a positive difference in, pupils’ lives.”
