Job overview
This role entails teaching Design and Technology and Food and Nutrition to Key Stage 3 and 4.
Applications from teachers from both specialisms are welcomed, but preference would be given to a suitably qualified teacher with a Food and Nutrition specialism. Teachers from a non-Food background should be prepared to deliver that subject to Key Stage 4 if they were successful at interview.
The post holder will join our friendly and creative DT and Food department, led by an experienced Head of DT and supported by a skilled technician. Food and Nutrition has been an extremely popular subject with our students, and this is a great opportunity to be part of a successful team as we move into GCSE provision. Please see the attached job description and person specification for more information.
Who are we?
King’s School is an ecumenical Christian School in the Diocese of Chichester. Our work and relationships are based upon the four core Christian values of Love, Forgiveness, Respect and Responsibility and through these we encourage and support every student and member of staff to be the best that they can be.
The school opened its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2013, when it was based on a small temporary site. There are currently just over 800 students in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, and a team of over 75 teachers and support staff. In September 2019 the school moved into its permanent site in Hangleton. We are now lucky to enjoy purpose-built facilities for all areas of the curriculum and stunning views of the South Downs. This was the culmination of six years of hard work and planning and marked the beginning of an exciting new stage in the school’s development. Our next milestone will be the opening of our Sixth Form in 2023. Planning and preparation for this are well underway. Applicants are encouraged to review our Sixth Form website for more information.
What do others say about us?
The school received its third Ofsted inspection in March 2022 (Section 5 inspection) and retained its rating of good overall with outstanding features. The inspector noted that pupils “are proud to be part of the school community” and that “the school’s provision for their education and welfare makes a significant contribution to their lives”.
Our recent staff survey found that staff feel supported and valued.
· “I feel very supported and listened to in this school. The school sets clear expectations, and the SLT is very approachable.”
· “I feel good about my new role. I feel I can approach colleagues, and the senior team with any questions or queries that I may have.”

Values and Vision
King’s School is an ecumenical Christian school, but welcomes staff and students of all faiths or none. Its four core values are love, forgiveness, respect and responsibility, demonstrating its strong upholding of religious values as well as its focus on creating students who are valuable contributors to the modern outside world.
The school's curriculum is strongly centred on English and maths, providing a firm foundation for the other curricular and extracurricular topics that it offers. Its religious studies lessons across all years help to encourage the understanding of Anglican as well as other mainstream Christian traditions.
Ofsted
“Governance is excellent. Governors use their wide-ranging skills to the best advantage of the school. They know where the best teaching resides and provide very effective challenge and support for school leaders. Students’ behaviour around the school and in lessons is [also] excellent. [They] are polite and take pride in their appearance [and] progress is tracked carefully so that effective action is taken to support students at risk of falling behind.” Ofsted 2015
The school had a short Ofsted inspection in December 2018 and maintained its good rating (from June 2015) with a recommendation that the school receives a Section 5 inspection for its next inspection due to marked improvement since 2015.
