The School is located on a 324-acre estate which encompasses much of Harrow on the Hill and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 837 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. The Economics and Business department is a thriving department, with excellent public examination results and a very large uptake of boys in the Sixth Form. Of the 340 Sixth Form boys, over 220 are currently studying Economics (AQA) or Business (Edexcel) making it one of the most popular A-Level departments. In 2023, over three quarters of A-level candidates studying Economics achieved A or A* grades.
The successful applicant will teach Economics A-level. They will be expected to make an enthusiastic contribution to the work of the department and further the high profile of the department among Harrovians. They will contribute to the Super-Curriculum, which includes Electives, lectures and other academic extension, attend Chapel regularly and Speech Room (assembly) one weekly. They will also be a tutor in a House, supporting the House Master in the pastoral care of a group of boys, teacher PSHEE to a tutor group and contribute to extra-curricular activities, which are an important part of boarding-school life.
Support and training to achieve Qualified Teacher Status can be offered if required. We occasionally appoint Masters with outstanding qualities and a good degree who do not have a formal teaching qualification.
