Job overview

Everything we do is about empowerment.

At St Mary’s School in Cambridge, you can be YOU. We’re a unique school community that celebrates diversity and blends different languages, cultures and perspectives to create a true microcosm of the world.

The School is looking for a proactive and outstanding Teacher of English to join our flourishing English Department. The successful candidate must also be comfortable delivering PHSEE. The department aims to foster an enthusiasm for the study of English alongside a spirit of academic excellence. English is taught in mixed-ability groups throughout all year groups.

A range of activities, texts and approaches is used to challenge and engage the students. Members of the department share a common ethos, and the atmosphere is very positive, productive and supportive. Colleagues willingly share expertise and resources: we discuss and exchange ideas, but our schemes of work also allow flexibility so that individual interests are incorporated within a structured course.

The department is well equipped and resourced, including ICT facilities such as interactive whiteboards in all the English rooms, use of student devices and online resources such as Digital Theatre Plus, Massolit and ClickView. Resources are shared on the English departmental area on the school’s intranet and VLE.

From teaching and pastoral care to school life, everything we do at St Mary’s is for the benefit of our girls. As a single-sex independent school, we enable girls to build self-confidence and gain the knowledge and skills they need to overcome gender stereotypes. Whilst we give them the academic results to get wherever they want to go, we ensure they leave with far, far more – self-belief, passion and a desire to make a difference.

With amazing academic results, a rich pastoral programme and a nurturing and empowering environment, this is a unique place to study – and to work. Whatever your role, you will help to take a remarkable community to the next level and will benefit from significant investment in your personal and professional development. After all, releasing potential is why we’re here.

If you want to be here too, you can enjoy an outstanding career and comprehensive benefits, including a contributory pension scheme, a 33% discount (pro rata for part-time staff) on school fees, a BUPA cash plan, an occupational sickness scheme, free lunches and refreshments, a season ticket discount and much more.

If you have any questions, please contact the HR Team by email: hr@stmaryscambridge.co.uk or call: 01223 353253.

If you can bring your best every day and want to help us inspire the next generation, it’s time we talked. For further information about the role and how to apply, please visit https://www.stmaryscambridge.co.uk/about/job-vacancies.htm

Closing date: 8:00am on Monday, 14 October 2024.

Interview date: Tuesday, 22 October 2024.

We will review applications on receipt. Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date, and we reserve the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

The school is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
