Our passion for improving standards is evident in our current projects with the EEF and Shotton Research School.

The English curriculum at Wellfield School aims to educate, empower and equip students with a passion for knowledge and an intellectual curiosity that extends beyond the classroom. Building on the National Curriculum for KS3, students in Year 7 to 9 follow the English Mastery programme. This comprises of ‘Literary Heritage’ lessons in which students study canonical texts chosen for their position within literary history. In addition to this, students have dedicated ‘Mastery Writing’ lessons which include discreet grammar teaching to improve the precision of our writing, building upon their knowledge from KS2. In KS4, students study AQA English Language and AQA English Literature.

Alongside the English curriculum, we have recently invested in our library which offers all students a wealth of engaging and stimulating reading materials. Reading is a core part of our school day at Wellfield School and our school librarian and English department are constantly seeking new ways to foster a love of reading.
