Teacher of German (Secondary & Primary) 60 %

Start date: 01.11.2024

Location: International School Zurich North 8304 Wallisellen

Purpose: To teach German across the Primary and Secondary divisions of International School Zurich North.

Job Description:

We provide the highest quality of childhood education and are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate German Teacher. This role is essentially to inspire and empower young learners by delivering engaging and comprehensive instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and nurturing their academic, social, and emotional growth in alignment with educational standards and school objectives. The role requires a Teacher who speaks German fluently.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To deliver outstanding, authentic and engaging German lessons across a range of year groups using effective teaching strategies.
  • Develop and deploy resources to support high quality student learning, by planning effective teaching programmes which provide exemplary learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom
  • To collaborate with the languages team to support the development of excellence in teaching and learning, including the preparation, planning, and delivering of student-centred learning activities.
  • Work with the Head of Languages and the German teaching team to ensure unit planners and schemes of work are prepared, relevant data is tracked to ensure impactful student learning.
  • Take an active role in the co-curricular and pastoral life of the school.
  • Evaluate and assess student progress through ongoing observation, providing constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Participate in school training sessions and parent-teacher meetings.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere where every student feels respected and valued.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • To comply with safeguarding policies, procedures and code of conduct.
  • To demonstrate a personal commitment to safeguarding and student/colleague wellbeing.
  • To ensure that any safeguarding concerns or incidents are reported appropriately in line with policy.
  • To engage in safeguarding training when required. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • A recognised teaching qualification which enables the applicant to teach in Kanton Zurich.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Proven track record of high standards and expectations.
  • Is an effective team player.
  • Competence and confidence in the use of IT.
  • Flexibility and a can do approach.
  • Ability to build positive. relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • To employ teaching, learning and assessment strategies which meet pupils’ individual needs and support differentiated learning.
  • Experience of teaching German in an international school setting.
  • Local connections and a belief in the value of authentic partnerships in language learning.
  • Experience of developing assessment practices and procedures in collaboration with colleagues.

About International School, Zurich North (ISZN)

ISZN International School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational independent all-through school with sixth form in Switzerland, serving students from the age of 3-18. The all-through school is situated in Wallisellen, nearby to the city of Zurich.  It is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

ISZN International School was established in 1999. The school offers an international curriculum taught in English, with pupils going on to sit IGCSE exams and A levels. Small class sizes are offered with a 1:8 teacher, student ratio. There are over 40 nationalities represented at the school. Facilities include a library, art room, science labs and access to a swimming pool at local sports centre.
