Job overview
A well-qualified, dynamic and highly creative Teacher of Graphics and Art & Design is required to join our excellent Visual Arts and Technology Faculty from January 2025.
The thriving Visual Arts and Technology Faculty runs highly successful examination courses in four specialisms at GCSE and A Level along with an extensive extra-curricular programme; Fine Art, Textiles, Graphics, Photography and Design & Technology. George Abbot has a reputation for excellence in the visual arts and our students often take part in national and regional exhibitions and competitions, and are regularly successful. Our students are also very successful in gaining places at leading universities and colleges for further education in the Visual Arts.
There are three Art rooms including a specialist room for ceramics. Drawing forms the foundation to the Art & Design curriculum throughout the school. However, students have experience in a variety of drawing, painting, print making, digital and sculptural media. Textiles is based in three open plan studio areas with good facilities for all aspects of textile design; from dyeing to photographic screen-printing techniques. We have three Graphics classrooms equipped with computers and three well-equipped photography teaching spaces with Macs and a darkroom and studio. The Visual Arts have a high profile at George Abbot School.
The ability to teach Graphics to GCSE and A Level is essential (particularly with skills and experience of using Photoshop or other digital programmes). We would welcome a willingness to contribute to the extra- curricular life of the school.
Ofsted said, “Pupils happily attend George Abbot School. They respect their teachers and behave well in lessons. Pupils take their studying seriously and try to get the most out of their experiences at school. Teachers expect a lot from pupils” (December 2019).
