MIGSG is an independent all girls 11 – 16 secondary school located in the Fielden Campus, West Didsbury, Manchester, M20 2PQ. West Didsbury is an affluent suburb of South Manchester and is perfectly located within easy access of the bus and tram routes to Manchester city centre. It is a vibrant area, balancing a cosmopolitan yet village atmosphere.
We are a relatively small school of approximately 250 students, and alongside our partner schools, KD Grammar School for Boys and Manchester Muslim Preparatory School, form part of the highly successful Manchester Islamic Educational Trust, founded in 1991. We have been rated outstanding at our last three Ofsted inspections.
Our mission is to prepare, engage and enthuse our students by helping them to identify their talents and build on their strengths. We have a fully enriched SMSC programme where students can demonstrate their skills beyond the classroom to become responsible adults, making valuable contributions to their own and the wider community. As a Muslim school, faith is at the heart of everything we do and is paramount to the ethos of the school.
We follow the National Curriculum in all subjects and the AQA syllabus for GCSE History, which is a very popular option choice amongst students.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, committed and highly motivated teacher with the ability to deliver a high quality education that inspires amongst students a love of learning and a determination to achieve their very highest potential.
You will have:
A degree level qualification in History or a related field, a recognised teaching qualification e.g. PGCE with QTS and preferably experience teaching in UK schools, the right to work in the UK, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting the ethos of the school in all respects.
A job description and person specification are attached.
As the sole teacher of History in the school, the successful applicant will be responsible for devising schemes of work and assessment materials, managing the departmental budget and the purchase of relevant resources for the delivery of the curriculum. A TLR is paid in addition to the basic salary for this responsibility.
We follow the Manchester City Council calendar for term dates and school closures.
We value our staff and their commitment to our ethos so we also offer additional paid leave for the following periods, providing these do not fall within the scheduled main school holidays:
The last five working days of Ramadhan, Two days at Eid – al – Fitr, One day for the Day of Arafat & Two days at Eid – ul – Adha
In addition, five days’ paid leave is available on a rota basis for staff who travel for Hajj for first time. If you are passionate about teaching& making a difference in the lives of young people, we encourage you to apply. We welcome applications from both ECTs and experienced teachers, and those from any faith or none.
Please note: only shortlisted applicants will be contacted - if you have not been contacted regarding an interview within four weeks you will have been unsuccessful. We retain the right to close the deadline earlier than advertised due to the volume of applications.
We will only accept completed MIGSG application forms which must be returned with a supporting statement (maximum 2 A4 pages) to the Executive Headteacher’s PA, Yasmeen Khan, at pa@migsg.miet.uk. Please note, incomplete application forms will not be considered.
