Job Duties:
- To carry out professional duties and to have teaching and learning responsibility for assigned classes.
- To provide structured lessons with clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes with appropriate challenges and high expectations.
- To be a leader of learning who is responsible for the day to day work and management of the assigned students and the safety and welfare of pupils during on site and offsite activities.
- To promote the aims and objectives of the school and to maintain its philosophy of education.
- To work with Support Staff to ensure students make the best progress possible.
- To plan and differentiate teaching, taking into consideration any special needs and requirements which individual students may have.

Experience:
- Experience of working with young people who have special educational needs, in the areas of emotional difficulties and with associated behaviour and learning difficulties.

- Experience of directing education assistants
Knowledge and Understanding:
- Sound knowledge of the subject area
- Good understanding of the variety of learning styles
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of current developments in the subject area and in teaching and learning strategies.
- Sound knowledge of how to use modern technology to support learning and to aid pupil progress.
- Knowledge of how to use data to inform planning and improve progress.
Further Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Learning
- To effectively promote equality and to treat everyone with fairness and dignity.
- To liaise with other professionals when appropriate. Eg. SENCo, Speech and Language Specialist, Careers advisor.
- Lead a particular area of curriculum through the adaptation of schemes of work and assessment.
- Manage own personal Continued Professional Development (CPD), maintaining a portfolio of training undertaken. Including maintaining up to date subject knowledge.
- Establish and maintain a purposeful working atmosphere; creating a stimulating and pleasant learning environment for students and staff to be a part of.
- To mark in line with the school’s marking policy, giving appropriate feedback, and maintaining records of pupil’s progress and development.
- To assess pupils’ work in accordance with school and departmental policy, and to set targets for their progress.
- Record students progress in accordance with the school’s assessment policy
- To provide opportunities to the SMSC development and improve Cultural Capital of students.
- To produce informative reports for parents/carers in accordance with the school standards.
- To enrich pupils' learning experience by participating in and planning enrichment activities such as school trips, celebration day activities and sporting events.
- To prepare pupils for external qualifications and examinations
- Behaviour and Welfare
- To promote the welfare and pupils and to support the school in safeguarding pupils through relevant policies and procedures.
- Maintain high expectations by implementing the school’s reward systems.
- To be a Tutor to an assigned pupil and promote their general progress and well-being.
- Recognise that health and safety is the responsibility of every employee; taking reasonable care of self and others and complying with the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
- To safely and confidently physically intervene when needed.
- Other Professional Duties
- To attend and contribute to calendared meetings and training sessions.
- To complete intervention logs after a physical intervention or significant event.
- To celebrate pupils work through displays and awards.
- To ensure that the school’s policies and ethos are reflected in daily practice.
To carry out any other responsibility as outlined by the Headteacher that is in line with the development of the school.
An annual review of this job description and allocation of particular responsibilities will take place as part of the Performance Management Review.
