Quarry Bay School is seeking to appoint a full-time mainscale teacher (Mandarin) for the start of the school year in August 2025. The position will be a two-year finite contract, renewable by mutual consent.

Responsibilities

At Quarry Bay School, it is expected that a teacher of Mandarin demonstrates the attributes of a general classroom teacher. These attributes include the capacity to maximise student learning and development through the planning, preparation, teaching and assessment of programmes which meet students’ individual learning needs and achieve specific student outcomes. Teachers teach a range of student abilities and classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programmes. The teacher engages in critical reflection in order to improve their knowledge and skills to better engage students and improve their learning.

Mainscale teachers (Mandarin) assume roles beyond the classroom in endeavouring to maximise students’ learning. These roles include working collaboratively with colleagues and other members of the school community and communicating with parents and caregivers. 

The mainscale teacher (Mandarin) contributes to the school goes beyond the classroom. They participate in the development of school policies and programmes and assist in the implementation of school priorities. All teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their teaching duties.


The successful candidate for this post must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in any subject with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Relevant years of teaching experience within a recognised educational organisation


Mainscale teachers with primary classroom teaching experience and the capacity to speak Mandarin are strongly encouraged to apply.

In addition to these requirements, the successful candidate for this post will ideally have:

  • Experience with the PYP curriculum framework or similar.
  • A commitment to effective teamwork.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, staff and parents.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of capability in using ICT in teaching.
  • Genuine care about children and be concerned about the development of the whole person.
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs
