About St Aidan's Church of England High School

St. Aidan’s Church of England High School is a comprehensive School with around 2000 pupils between the ages of 11 and 19. Our Associated Sixth Form brings together more than 1,000 students from St. Aidan’s and nearby St. John Fisher Catholic High School, making it one of the largest school-based Sixth Forms in the country.

Year on year our academic outcomes exceed  the national average in all measures with a three-year  trend of over 85% of students achieving a GCSE grade 4  in both English and Maths.

In 2024 over 35% of all GCSE  grades attained were at grade 7 or above.

At Advanced  Level, 59% of results achieved in the Associated Sixth  Form were A*to B with 90% of students obtaining places  at their first or second choice University. In 2024, 18 students secured places at Oxford or  Cambridge Colleges with a significant number of  students taking up places on competitive courses at  the top Universities in the country.

The school, however, never loses sight of its essential inclusivity: we believe that all children flourish here, as we strive to be a centre of educational excellence where each and everyone knows the gift of life in all its fullness. In the wider curriculum, Christian groups thrive, our Music and PE departments enjoy national status, drama is fantastic, excellence in a variety of competitive sports is achieved every year and outdoor pursuits are available at every level.

St. Aidan’s stands firmly on its Church foundation, and we place particular emphasis on high-quality religious education and Christian assemblies, alongside the highest standards of Christian behaviour. It is the school’s aim to ensure that its Christian tradition is expressed in the values it upholds, in the whole curriculum offer and in its daily living. Another feature of our school is the variety and quality of our educational trips, both locally and internationally, made possible by the support and dedication of our staff.

St. Aidan’s has successfully led many educational initiatives and fully engaged with national and local partnerships. For example achieving Specialist School status in Science, Mathematics and Modern Languages, as well as receiving the International School Award, ArtsMark Gold, the Quality in Careers Standard, and the TES Best School Dinners Award.
